Going Places
The lush, novelistic “Camille Claudel” with Isabelle Adjani.
The later comic “Bon Voyage” in which he was reteamed with Adjani for supporting roles is a nice dessert.

None. I can’t begin to understand the love people have for Depardieu. He’s a horrible actor and I shudder to see him still acting in films.
I like most of the films that I’ve seen him in. But I can definitely tell you which film I really don’t like him in and I just don’t like anyway and that if My Father The Hero.
I’ll defend his Cyrano de Bergerac. A fantastic interpretation of that role.
Under the Sun of Satan.
oh and My Father the Hero: ""SO NOW I AM DYING!?!?"
he didn’t have the biggest part in jean de florette, but the scene in which he’s yelling at God during the storm is heartbreaking.
but i’d have to go with cyrano de bergerac
Oh, Woe is Me!
Maitresse, or however you spell that movie.
I really liked Green Card. super lame. :P
Danton (Wajda, ’83)
Great film about the french revolution; Depardieu is quite memorable in this one.
1900, followed by Helas Pour Moi.
Or actually, vice versa? Could go either way.
A versatile actor who can seemingly take on just about any kind of role and make it his own. Of what I have seen, liked him best in Jean de Florette and Return of Martin Guerre. He gave a powerful and believable performance in each.
SOUS LE SOLEIL DE SATAN
Maurice Pialat
For me it’s among Mon Oncle d’Amerique, Loulou or Get Out Your Handkerchiefs, but i havent seen him in Duras’ films
In some ways, just like a good wine, Gérard has improved with age. One of his best roles in recent years has been in Xavier Giannoli’s Quand j’étais chanteur.
There’s something almost Falstaffian and also of the ‘everyman’ about him.
Besides 1900 Depardieu starred in a forgotten movie called
“Una pura formalita” with Roman Polanski (acting). Upf is a
clever thriller, two men of cinema acting brilliantly together.
definitely not 1492
I had only seen one Depardieu film, That being Truffaut’s The Last Metro. I loved it, It could be a favorite. But soon to see 1900.
Why does Depardieu not have a picture, quote, and bio?
I submitted one charles
should be added eventually
I’m crazy about all of his work with Bertrand Blier – it’s as if Depardieu makes the whimsy, the plot-changes, and the improbabilities of Blier’s work all comprehensible…He’s made Depardieu one of the great comedians, over years and many films…
I think he’s better suited to the stage than to cinema personally. I find his approach to acting distracts from the cinematic medium’s true purpose.

Do you have a favorite Gérard Depardieu film?
