Out of the Blue — i think it’s one of the two or three best movies of the ’80’s.
Yep, Out of the Blue is awesome. “The Last Movie”, “The American Friend” and “The American Dreamer” are on my need-to-watch list.
Given that there’s a thread regarding his passing and there are too many cock-on-the-desk-I have-a-list-list-of-favourites, this thread might not be required. Stop the lists? No, there’s too much obscure film knowledge to impart!
His performance in BLUE VELVET was really horrifying! That performance places him, I think, in the realm of people like Lon Chaney or Christopher Lee.
FRASER: good luck finding The last Movie buddy! Unless they release it on dvd soon, or it plays at a local retrospective, you probably won’t be seeing it! :-)
I missed my chance to see it earlier this year actually.

Andrew- the very reasoning behind starting this thread was to get more insight on some of his lesser known films that I WILL go and seek out and watch in his honour ( also not the biggest list fan but this one is warranted)
I got a copy of American Dreamer last night so this thread is already paying off ;)
More love for Mad Dog Morgan, his greatest role!
Carried Away, nice subtle work.

A true iconoclastic figure is lost from film forever so it seems fitting for a thread like this to explore and hopefully give/get reccomendations (apologies if there already is a thread)
let’s go top 5 unless you want to add more :)
1) Blue Velvet
2)Out of the Blue
3) the American Friend
4)River’s edge
5)Apocalypse Now
There are a TON of his earlier and later (including straight to dvd trash) that I haven’t seen so the films added in here the better!
R.I.P.
P.S. have you seen his Venice Beach house???
