Gun Crazy and Badlands.
They Live By Night
Pierrot le Fou
Pierrot le Fou
They Live By Night – Cynical, beautiful, delirious—the original.
Badlands – That childish, lyrical vision of murder appears later, I think, in Neil Jordan’s The Butcher Boy
Pierrot le Fou, of course Pierrot le Fou.
agree with Pierrot le Four, unless Breathless counts. he’s on the lam, she’s not—and we all know how THAT ends.
for the most part, i don’t like Lovers-on-the-Lam movies. at least not the ones i’ve seen. it makes for a good idea, but so often people want the characters to look so cool that they lose what makes the story interesting. sadly, i haven’t seen Badlands—haven’t Netflixed it, and i can’t find it at any DVD seller, but i do look out for it every chance i get. i’ve seen parts of it, and i’m convinced i’ll like it. but i was also convinced i’d like Natural Born Killers and True Romance—hated them both. i haven’t bothered to watch Kalifornia, and i’m almost positive that, in spite of its many great reviews, Bonny & Clyde won’t strike me as being great. of course, i’m hoping i’m wrong ‘cause i know that i’ll end up seeing it sooner or later.
i’ve never heard of They Live By Night, so guess what i’m gonna go look up right now…
Badlands is a hell of a movie. Much better than NBK and True Romance. Bonnie and Clyde is good, but if you’re convinced it’ll be bad… If you like film noir, both They Live By Night and Gun Crazy are fantastic.
Chariots of Fire. No seriously – Personal Best. No seriously – Pierrot Le Fou.
i am a beacon of originality so i am going to say pierrot le fou
Badlands…
Wild At Heart…
Natural Born Killers…
Raising Arizona…
And a lot of those Hitchcock ‘wrong man’ ones…
The Godard is hard to beat… and of course Badlands and Bonnie and Clyde are personal favs… but I’ll opt for an Altman, his version of They Live By Night with Keith Carradine and Shelly Duvall…. it’s called Thieves Like Us and it’s superb. Special mention to Fritz Lang’s version with Hank Fonda… You Only Live Once.
Jimenez
Badlands.
Then it’s a tie between Bonnie & Clyde and The Sadist!
It’s a subject I can obsess over.
