Any video by TOOL.

Plus Shut Me Up by Mindless Self Indulgence:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxCPCteWZqw

The video was directed by Jhonen Vasquez the creator of Invader Zim and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. He is currently working on a movie that he is writing and directing himself. I can’t wait!

Dougal Wilson’s videos for Goldfrapp, “A&E” and “Happiness”.

Otherwise Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze and Chris Cunningham are obvious choices.

I grew up with the first music videos and I remember marveling at MTV. It was perfect for me – short attention span theater. If you didn’t like the show that was on, just wait a minute or two and a new one would start. I don’t watch many music videos these days but the Aha / Take On Me literal video is one of my favorites. I guess it’s even funnier if you watch the original first.

All of Radiohead music videos. I also used to like Queen’s song Innuendo, and Bohemian Rhapsody. R.E.M’s Losing My Religion is a great one too.
Rabbits in your headlights is the number one.

I remember being stunned by the video to Paul Hardcastle’s “19”

I also saw a superb video—- highly artistic, impressionistic, subliminal, psychedelic—- for Tommy James’s “Crystal Blue Persuasion”.
