Favorite Novel of Yours which is dying to made into Film

well back in the 1980s they made this lacklustre version of Less Than Zero with Robert Downey Jr as the lead. I like them to make another version of this Bret Easton Ellis novel. Since everything in music and fashion right now has the feel of 1980s. I am surprise they havent decided to give it a second stab. For heaven sake, their doing Batman again.

House of Leaves. But then again, I really don’t want anyone to make it because I want to make it, and I know how to make it, and I know how to make it very, very good, but I need a LOT of film, and not talkin’ video, I’m talking film stock of various sizes, and I’m talking expensive, expensive film. But I want to make it. So hopefully no one else does, though honestly Danielewsky strikes me as the type of person who would say no to all offers (un/fortunately for me).

I’d like to see some crazy-ass filmmaker assay Donald Barthelme’s Snow White.

I wish someone would make a film of THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY, or any of Patricia Highsmith’s novels, that stuck more closely to her vision, without adding easy bummer endings.

This isn’t a novel, but I think George Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia has a great story to tell.

Roscoe: Re The Talented Mr. Ripley: Not being familiar with Highsmith’s own vision, I think this film is excellent on its own merits. I think the acting is just about perfect – Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, Philip Seymour Hoffman – come on! I love the film myself, irregardless of whether it is faithful to the intention of the novel. I don’t think you are going to get a ‘better’ version. This film is a great example of why 1999 was such a standout year for film, and much of this last passing decade has seemed kind of anti-climatic, at times. This film demonstrated that at his best, Minghella had a way with actors that few possess today. It is sad that he is no longer with us. I hold this film and Truly, Madly, Deeply in the highest regard in his own short film work.

William Gay’s “Twilight”; Walter M. Miller’s “A Canticle for Leibowitz”; Flann O’Brien’s “The Third Policeman”; Alan Moore’s “Top Ten”.

apart of me wants someone to try Bukowski’s Ham On Rye, but not whoever the hell was responsible for Factotum.

and i think someone could to a much better job with John Fante’s Ask The Dust than Robert Towne—that movie was atrocious. i know a verion of Wait Until Spring, Bandini was done in the late 80s, but haven’t seen it. i think that both could be beutiful coming of age films, if not done with too much sap or sentiment.

I’ve just read a new phenominal book called “Stolen”. Everyperson that has read the book would agree with me that yes, this book will be perfect for a movie. It explores the Australian outback really well when a 23 year old guy named Ty kidnappes Gemma (16yrs old) from England and brings her there in the boot of his car. He is no ordinary kidnapper, he’s mysertious, sensitive (hot as well ;D) and knows a lot more about her then she realises.Just when she begins to form strong feelings for him, he gets captured after turning himself in at a hospitol he took her too after a snake bite. Its an absolute stunner. Even people who hate books will love this. It warmed my heart and it will too others too. I will never forget this book!!!!
Read it and you’ll understand.

The House of the Scorpion – Nancy Farmer

Book I read when I was about 13. Great story about drugs, cloning, Mexico. Awesome book that needs to be a movie, the concept alone would sell some tickets.

Am very much looking forward to Scorsese’s Shutter Island, adapted from the Dennis Lehane novel.

Still waiting for someone to make a faithful version of The Black Dahlia, as DePalma seriously let me down.

Would like to see an update of The Fountainhead.

Cheers,

Steve

Fahrenheit 451. I liked the retro look of François Truffaut’s film, but I really want a faithful adaptation. Catcher in the Rye, would be nice to see an adaptation of this book. With Terrence Malick rumored to direct I think it will be awesome .

Actually Quentin Tarantino has said that he wants to make his own version of Ellis’ Less Than Zero, that’s more faithful to the book
