The heist sequence in Rififi.
The scene in Rififi is up there in my 25 favorite scenes, I really have to see that movie again
Top 5 right now, in no particular order:
i The dance scene with the little girl in the market in Anchors Aweigh.
ii The letter reading scene in Winter Light.
iii The milk scene in Inglorious Basterds.
iv Really fast getaway from the gas station scene in Pierrot le Fou.
v The last hotel room scene in L’Avventura
It either has to be the scene in Half Nelson when Ryan Gosling’s student actually hands him his next hit of drugs OR the very end of Shawshank Redemption, on the beach. Such different feelings, but always powerful!
The Kiss sequence in Cinema Paradiso
One of my all time favorites is the wedding and party from Emir Kusturica’s “Black Cat, White Cat.”
the dance scene in Barton Fink. my wife and i always try to recreate that dance. it’s not easy.

Favorite Scene: Jeanne Moreau walking down the Champs-Élysées at night with Miles Davis music playing in the background
The shootout in the beginning of The Wild Bunch
The pool party in Boogie Nights
The opening scene of Once upon a time in the West
I think Robert Altman’s depictions of violence are amongst the most profound scenes I can think of in film. They are usually unprovoked and therefore even more unsettling. The boy being shot on the bridge in McCabe and Mrs. Miller, the coke bottle scene in The Long Goodbye, the two country singers being shot in Nashville, the pool cleaning man killing a teenage girl just before the earthquake in Short Cuts, and the brutality against all the participants in the kidnapping in Kansas City are all stand outs. Those all pierce the heart.
I love the final image of Memento Mori with the two girls playing on the roof. It’s a simple image yet as romantic a one as I’ve seen in the last dozen years.
Banana Nut
Anything from the long tracking shot in Goodfellas to the graphic rape scene in A Clockwork Orange
