Synecdoche, New York
oldboy
Yi Yi if I must, but there’s a ton of great ones and this seems really exclusionary (which is the point I assume).
Yi Yi
almost instant choice, in close contention,
Mulholland Drive
In the Mood for Love
Amelie
Zodiac
No Country for Old Men.
Oldboy would be one of my least favorites.
Gangs of New York (I get it. I like it you don’t. Oh well.)
Cidade de Deus
I like it. But not that much…
It’s a toss-up between Mulholland Drive and No Country For Old Men.
Hey Adam! Want to do another poll for this decade?
I think the results would be much more diverse than the other poll since everyone on here has been viewing all films that come out, due to them being alive. What I mean is that if someone wants to get into film they will look up best of lists and start going through that. It takes more time to get exposed to obscure films. But everyone has seen a ton of highly and lowly rated films from this decade so we all will have favorites out of the ordinary. Also since it is focused in on a 10 year period, the films will get more obscure.
It would probably be cool to wait for another 6 months though so the decade can be over.
Perfume: the Story of a Murderer
“Brand Upon the Brain!” comes immediately to mind.
Three burials of Melquiadas Estrada.
In the Mood for Love.
Drew it is funny that you bring that up as I have already intended to conduct a best of the decade poll. We should wait at least until January, but it may be even better to allow a couple months of reflection. The first poll was conducted in march, so perhaps exactly 1 year later. I agree that the results would be very interesting. I definitely think are there are a couple obvious inclusions but other than that it will be a toss up.

P.S
I dislike PTA so much but that was an incredible film….
Even though I’ve seen a great many indie and foreign films in the past ten years, I’d have to say my all-time favorite is without a doubt Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (and, for me, the only great film of Michel Gondry’s career, which I attribute to the writing of Charlie Kaufman).
I’m with you John T.
The Russian Ark
Fog of War
In the Bedroom
The Queen
WALL-E
Goodbye, Dragon Inn

Mine must be Oldboy.
