I wanted to like it Selby wrote it but John T way overdid it in my mind.
I just watched it and i have to say i think i wasted my time. Refn’s definite worst movie so far, shame.
One of Refn’s best. The negative criticism is most likely from generic audiences.
how dare you…i love every other one of his movies but this was terrible.

It looks to me like he only took the job to break America and to work with Hubert Selby Junior. It’s just a very vague movie with a weak plot and no real performances from the actors involved. All of Refn’s other movies are very real, very brutal and this one just feels feels like the odd one out.
This film is not like his other films, just like Bronson and (reportedly) Valhalla Rising are unlike Bleeder and the Pusher films. Call it “arty” or any other adjective, but the film is intriguing and even beautiful.

i totally understand why most people hate it, but for some strange reason i like this movie a lot.
and the soundtrack (partially done by Brian Eno) is fucking AMAZING.
