Motforestilling
dir. ERIK LØCHEN
Norway
1972
57min
What role does the ordinary John Doe play in politics? Is he a fully-fledged actor on the political stage or is he excluded? With 120 shots that can be arranged in any order, Erik Løchen creates a modernist and poetic film; a fascinating manifesto of cinematic art.
“During one sequence all the journalist’s preconceived ideas on the nature of films and filmmaking are refuted by the obstinate director. The journalist finally exclaims: ‘It won’t make anyone more intelligent’. The director, dwelling on the last word, replies: ‘Not really, no, but perhaps a little more confused? Now that could be useful.’”

Del olvido al no me acuerdo
dir. Juan Carlos Rulfo
Mexico
1997
1h 15 min.
A tale of memory and oblivion serves as the pretext for a son’s search for his father, and more specifically, the director’s search for his own father, the famous Mexican author. Yet people barely remember him. This man, who everyone seems to know by the name of Juan but whom no one can recall with any accuracy, comes to life through the interviews given by the director’s mother and by other writers from his father’s generation: Juan José Arreola, Manuel Cosío and the late Jaime Sabines.

Sotigui Kouyaté, un griot moderne
dir. Mahamat-Saleh Haroun
France, Chad
1996
57min
Using accounts by Peter Brook, Jean-Claude Carrière and Jean-Pierre Guigané, the filmmaker paints the portrait of Sotigui Kouyaté, actor, musician and storyteller, who died in April 2010 and whose fame stretched from Africa to Europe.
“Peter Brook says that with Sotigui Kouyaté there is a continuity between the visible and the invisible. And while the film does not touch upon the invisible, it does allow the perSONality of Sotigui Kouyaté to shine through the screen.”
