I know that they were added and then removed from the database, but I’m going to make a case once more for the music videography of Lana Del Rey. Her self-directed montage videos (“Video Games”, “Blue Jeans” (1), “Carmen”, “Kinda Outta Luck”) are beautiful pieces of work from an artist so intently connecting with the historical contexts of her inspirations and upbringing. They are auteur works, through and through. The polished, non-Del Rey-directed videos (“Blue Jeans” (2), “Born to Die”) are visually and emotionally wonderful to watch and still connect with Del Rey’s neo-classy/trash aesthetic. These are auteur works, and I’ll stand by this one for sure.
