Does anyone know where there might be reliable English subtitles.
The ones I’ve found are auto-translated.

Any leads?

Auto-translated? You mean like by Google Translate?

To be honest, I don’t think this movie was ever translated into English professionally. If you can understand most or some of it, I could fill you in on whatever you didn’t get, but you’d obviously be missing out on cinematic continuity. Alternatively, we could start up a translation project with some other volunteers on MUBI and hammer out a more or less succinct version over the weekend (generally fr-en, en-fr translations take me around 3-4 hours for 30 minutes of film with a program like Aegisub, provided obviously that someone else does check and timing). If that doesn’t interest anyone, then you’re pretty much plumb out of luck. It doesn’t help the movie is in ghastly Quebec dialect.

In general though, I don’t think you’re missing out on too, too much. I’m really not a big fan of this movie. Imagine a pretty low-budget (National Film Board? I’m not sure, it may have been on private funds) Canadian feature directed by a 19 or 20 (?) year old about (homo)sexual/ suburban teenage angst. I think there’s better out there, but you don’t have to take my word for’t.

…you could also try subscene, but the quality of subs is pretty variable.

There are no subs online for it still. I saw it in the theater last year, and it had perfectly fine English subs then (and I say this as someone who’s familiar, though not bilingual, with French-Canadian dialect). It’ll come out on DVD eventually…. right?

Go check Heartbeats (or Les Amours Imaginaries, if you prefer) if you can. It’s better.
