Whatever loss of data I may have suffered is trivial, I’m just so glad you de-porned the place.

This is a tremendous amount of work and I’m crashing so I’m gonna put a moratorium on these for now. I’ll try to get directors cup though…

Bonus: the lists editing bug has been isolated, it has to do with problems on particular films. I’ll work on a fix later, no easy workaround for now.

Panic at the Kindergarten restored
Thanks very much Gabe. When you can get to them, I have a few questions as well.
1. It’s great to see these lists and posts that were made in the past 24 hours or so restored to the site. But there are many of us who have not been able to create, let alone update a list for going on three weeks now. Do you have any idea when this might be fixed? I understand you may be dealing with a nasty bug and hope it can be resolved soon.
2. Speaking of nasty bugs or trolls, how should members react when the forum is under attack? I don’t have the technical knowledge and wonder is it best to flag the post and then carry on with posting; or is it more helpful to the moderators/techs if we flag and then immediately stop posting? Can you lend any guidance or is there somewhere here on Mubi that explains how we should react to those trolls that especially attack the entire front page at a time?
In other words, is there anything the community can do to help get rid of the jerks?
1. Ironically I was only ever able to reproduce this by attempting to restore one of the lists and having the problem crop up so I could investigate the technical details. Now that I know the problem I can most like have a fix in place this week.
2. Simply flag and go about your business. Generally you don’t want to respond because A) that’s what he wants and B) the posts will be gone soon and then your response will look silly. If it starts to ramp up we’ll just keep more moderators on duty and perhaps institute further triage measures as it seems necessary. Basically there’s one guy who does all the trolling, and he’s helping us build an extremely robust moderation system. He’s sort of like a Quality Assurance person except we don’t have to pay him.
So guys I’m calling it a night. I took a hard look at the director’s cup threads, but decided it’s not worth the effort, because it would take hours to individually recreate each comment, and they would be all out of order anyway, and then we’d have to delete the dups. Let me put it this way, if anyone had any amazing commentary that they would like recovered from their post, ask me individually and I can pull the copy from the log and you can repost it. However most of the comments I saw were very short and definitely not worth the effort.
