Film watching habits

I was wondering if you guys had any film watching rituals or quirky habits like the time of day you watch, foods/drinks you consume, drugs, how you choose your films etc…

As for myself, I almost always watch my movies at night, with the only light coming from the television. It helps to mimic the theater experience. I don’t often eat because I find it distracts me from the movie and I’d prefer to watch some mindless television while eating.

Occasionally I’ve been known to dabble in the weed marijuana from time to time, specially at the cinema, but rarely anymore ;) There’s nothing like watching Mirror or The Assassination of Jesse James for the first time extremely high. The way I choose my films to watch is too complex, impulsive and irrational to describe but it pretty much ensures that I see one film a day, everyday. It can range from a totally random pick, a recommendation or watch as much as possible from a certain region (currently on an exclusively Asian cinema binge).

Not sure if this has already been done, but I’m curious. Maybe I won’t feel as neurotic as I do, maybe more so.

I don’t eat. Night is ideal, but it isn’t a necessity.

No drugs. No alcohol.

I watch films at random, but I try for every 3 new films I watch to rewatch 1 old one. This forces me to give films a second chance and reenjoy my favorites despite the desire to cross another film off the list.

I tend to watch 2 films a day average during the summer/winter/spring breaks, and tend to watch an average of 4 films a week during school.

I generally try to watch at least one film a day, that´s the only habit I can think of.

I’m pretty sporadic. Sometimes I may watch at least a film a day, sometimes I go days or weeks without doing so. I usually try to watch them at night, but one little peeve of mine is that I get annoyed by the sounds of a T.V. from another room. You know, that muffled sound where it just sounds like a bunch of buzzing. I hate that, it just takes me out every time. :P

I like this. Sounds like a good habit.

I used to eat when starting to watch a film but I found myself getting sleepy so I stopped doing that. I avoid alcohol or drugs and if I watch very late at night I make sure I’m fully rested.

I second this.

I eat four loaves of split-top bread, three to five slices of industrial strength swiss cheese, and one or two DiGiorno Supreme Flatulence furniture sheaths. To wash it all down, I drink a 3-liter Pepsi Blue from seven years ago, so it’s aged really well, and a tablespoon of rat poision, to give me more lines in my body proper.

‘I drink a 3-liter Pepsi Blue from seven years ago, so it’s aged really well’

So my dreams of ‘aged’ soda are not a fantasy afterall . . .

I forgot about the communion wafers soaked in menstrual blood, and lighting a forklift pallet of sage. I do this every time I watch “Private School For Girls”. I DO NOT LET GIRLS WATCH MOVIES WITH ME.

I usually don’t watch a movie until I have like 6 or 7 MiG Gulps from my local 9-11 saved up in the refrigerator (I buy three a day, one for each meal, but sometimes I don’t think them). Then I buy about 21 or 22 bags of different kinds of Brach’s candy and eat them. I put the wrappers from the candy back in the bags, and then I make a big puffy seat out of them on the floor in my living room. Then I start watching the movie, and I take a gulp of soda every time somebody says “he,” “she,” or “it.” After the movie, I spank myself 10 times for each MiG Gulp not consumed, and then I eat the DVD.

Bolo Tie: ‘and then I eat the DVD.’

Criterions must be like Double Stuff Oreos then.

I watch it at random also. sometimes i catch something on tv, sometimes I pop a dvd or watch something downloaded in the computer. but what I really like to do is, either watch it alone, in my bed, or watch it with a bunch of friends with whom I can debate about the movie after we watch it.

Try to watch at least once a day.
Do eat, unless it’s a really absorbing film.
Tend to be silent depending on how great the film is.
Prefer night.
Pick randomly, depending on which genre I feel like.
Do re-watch great films, although my to-watch list of new films is huge.
Have categorized and filed all my movies, so I know what I have/Have not watched.

At night generally, but I won’t insist upon it.

I’ll eat snack type things, but not anything resembling a real meal unless I’m famished. I do like to have some type of drink, not alcohol.

One a day generally, but again I won’t insist on it.

My choices are randomly guided. By that I mean that I go to the library and pick movies out. I have to pick from what they have, but they rarely have absolutely nothing that I want to see. I mix in repeat views from here and there, but I try to watch what I’m in the mood to watch. If I’m in the wrong mood, it can kill a good movie.

I watch with friends when I can.

usually late at night or early in the mornings are ideal for me, but I don’t make it a rule or nothing. pretty much anytime right before i go out into the world to do something. don’t usually eat, but hey sometimes it happens.

I usually like to drink caffeinated beverages while I am watching a movie. There is a huge difference between watching a movie when you’re falling asleep and watching a movie when you’re wide awake. For me, anyways.

Lights out as a rule, unless it’s like, say, the Bourne movies on TNT. I like those movies, but with commercial interruptions concentration is thrown out the window.

Everytime i sit down to watch a film, i always have to have one slice of buttered bread and a pot of tea made from my favourite teapot.

Mostly I watch films at night. Sometimes I watch in the morning, and I like that, being more alert then. I never eat during a film, because I find it a bit distracting. I like to give the film my full attention. I always have a bottle of water at hand, and I don’t mind a glass of wine when I watch at night. When you watch a really great film, life is about as good as it gets, and I like to share that with a friend or my children. But most of the time, I watch my films in solitude. What films I choose are mostly random, based on mood, recomandations and/or previous films that I’ve liked from an auteur. And I love to rewatch films, and I do that after watching a few new ones. I also make sure I have quite a few films I haven’t watched yet in my collection, so I always find something to watch regardless of the mood I happen to be in. Very few to lift my spirit, though. Not many light comedies to be found in my dvd-collection…

I enjoy watching movies at night but I’m often tired. Better are the days that I have open, brewing up lots of green tea or maté and then having the rest of the day to consider what I’ve seen. Often I feel that I’ve accomplished quite a bit if I watch a movie towards the beginning of the day and then take on several tasks.

I often eat/drink watching movies. Popcorn, etcetera. Even for Chris Marker or Godard movies.

I do not regularly or even intentionally watch movies while drunk or high. There is only one occasion I can remember, where I saw Ritchie’s Snatch while high…

Would I get arrested for saying that?

I hope not…

I watch movies at random, rarely more than once. I tend to often watch Synecdoche New York, Nashville and Mulholland Drive often, though.

Night is good, but I find I fall asleep a lot of the time. (School has me consistently tired by the time night falls.)
I’ll usually just have some ice cream while watching, some water. Nothing too major or earth-shattering. In my room I’ve only got a 14-inch CRT and VCR, so it’s old stuff. On the computer, whatever I torrent.
(these limitations will be removed when I clean out the basement and put in a projector.)

At least one movie a day, but on a day off can finish four.
I prefer to watch one new film every day and older ones
when they jump out for an average of ten a week.

Always on my TV. never on computer….ever.

I prefer watching foreign films first thing in the morning if I can, Hollywood driven movies at night.

Sundays are usually reserved for Westerns, War films, and Epics.

and I love popcorn with a movie, always have since a kid.

As for the cinema I have slowed down since my youth. I probably go about twelve times a year

I like to make sure it will be quiet. All I really need is for it to be quiet. It seems however that some signal of impending doom goes out whenever I start however because someone HAS to start cleaning the house whenever I start watching a movie. It seems that if they don’t get it done within the running time of the movie the world will implode.

Silence is golden.
