The difference between Margaret and Army of Shadows is that Army of Shadows was completed in 1969 and released in France to the public in 1969. The fact that the US didn’t get it until thirty years later is kind of irrelevant. Margaret may have been shot in 2005 but the film wasn’t officially completed until this year.
Well now don’t I feel silly.

Does this mean Army of Shadows classifies as a 2006 film?
I’d really like to get to the bottom of this. I’m a big geeky stickler for categorization, and I’m not thrilled with the incongruities that I perceive. I’m asking for your input. Help me understand.
It seems to me that no matter when a film is released, when it was filmed is the most important consideration, films necessarily being “of a specific time and place.” This cannot be changed, but releases can be. So are we labeling films based on how they are marketed? This seems to be the trend, and it confuses me.
Your input, please.
