If we are talking about his documentary work, I would suggest Errol Morris.I think Jarmush tries but doesn"t always succeed.
He’s in a class by himself!
Guy Maddin from time to time…perhaps…
The obvious suggestion would be to, if you haven’t already, sample some of the other filmmakers of the New German Cinema—Wim Wenders, Fassbinder, Volker Schlöndorff. You might also want to check out Mika Kaurismäki’s documentary Tigrero: A Film That Was Never Made, about the proto-Herzogian film that Sam Fuller tried to make in the ’50s, but was eventually forced to abandon.
Korine maybe.
I don’t really think there is a filmmaker all that comparable to Herzog. However, that’s a testament to Herzog’s authentic uniqueness. Perhaps I sometimes find similar qualities in other films & filmmakers, but not to the extent where I consider a single filmmaker to be of the same style. A good example of that may be Malick, and his sometimes related fascinations.

The films of Werner Herzog have influenced me greatly and I understand that it is likely his work is already well known to most people here.
There are also many “Werner Herzog reads” parodies appearing on youtube, but despite the attempts to mimic his accent, such is the distinctiveness of his world view, I get the impression that Herzog would have read it differently.
Do you think there are any other films or filmmakers that are comparable to the work of Herzog? He seems to have every almost every base covered. For the moment I would like some recommendations to see if I might have missed something.
