The Decalogue: Episode 6, which was later made into a feature length film, Krótki film o miłości (A Short Film About Love). Beautiful filmmaking (the former, I mean as I’ve never seen the feature length).
In Fellini’s Nights of Cabiria there is a poignant scene where, as part of hypnotist’s act, a crowd of strangers is made privy to the main character’s innermost thoughts, an event which builds the foundation for the remainder of the film. Thought I’d mention it since the scene and the way events play out is very effective and the film isn’t one we’d normally lump in with Peeping Tom and the others.
That’s great, Sunday. I love Nights of Cabiria, but never thought about that scene in this way. Thanks.
Many of the films mentioned here might have a voyeuristic scene but are not about voyeurism stricto senso (Death in Venice ??!). I think Lola Montes falls in the latter category (like Peeping Tom, Rear Window and so on). We follow all the details of Lola’s life until it becomes embarrassingly painful to watch.
Imamura’s Pornographers
Peeping Tom
A snake of June
Blow out
A woman in the dunes
Bela Tarr’s The Man From London (2007) is unlike any other film regarding voyeurism. It takes so much time revealing what its main character is looking at, frequently without him in the frame, that the viewer too feels voyeuristic. Also, there are incredible long takes to coincide.
UN CHANT D’AMOUR
The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea (1976)
En la ciudad de Sylvia by José Luis Guerín
Midnight Meat Train
Please don’t forget The Truman Show – which deliberately exploits the cinema as voyeurism itself concept.
" La Mort en Direct" by Bertrand Tavernier (1979) with Romy Schneider, Harvey Keitel, Harry Dean Stanton, Max von Sydow…..
Two Girls One Cup
I am surprised that nobody included Francis Ford Coppola’s 1974 film “The Conversation” which revolves around voyerism and the invasion of privacy.
One of my very favorite flicks of all time is Vinko Bresan’s superb 2008, film “Nije kraj” AKA “Will Not End Here” which revolves around voyerism, first through the telescopic sight of a sniper’s rifle and later from the POV of a SLR camera.
None of the summaries I have read about this film come close to capturing the power of this phenomenal film or properly describe what this movie is really about. I don’t want to spoil it for you by attempting a more detailed retelling. I will caution you to avoid some of the popular reviews especially the main one on the IMDB which includes at least one significant spoiler that may lessen your enjoyment of this film.
It is a well constructed, drama and passionate love story full of black humour, pathos, tragedy and enough suspense to make me say wow. Overall, the movie gets my blessings and a 10 rating on the IMDB because it is a wonderfully told story around the voyeristic theme.

It probably has already been said, but any movie by De Palma and any movie by Argento.
