Films of Crispin Glover

Has anyone had the opportunity to see any of Crispin Glover’s movies while he’s on tour? Apparently he has no plans to release either of his two movies on home format. I have tickets to go see It is Fine at the IFC center next Wednesday where he will also perform a dramatic book reading. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this event. I feel his films are probably difficult to have a discussion on since they are not so widely available, but I would still love to hear everyone’s impressions here.

I have seen him live with What is It? and his big slide show. It was pretty interesting. More interesting to hear Crispin talk about the movie than to see the actual movie itself. As far as that movie goes, I would not ever have wanted to see it home alone or in any other setting other than with him touring it because the movie does not stand on its own. You have too many questions that are only answered during the Q&A, not by the movie itself.

I have a sense that It is Fine. Everything is Fine! might be a more cohesive better movie from what I’ve heard though. I wanted to see that one when it came around, but I missed it.

I have seen It Is Fine. Everything Is Fine! along with one of his slideshows. The film itself was actually a pleasant surprise, it has a lot more qualities than just general weirdness. The whole thing with Glover travelling around with his films and slideshows, not to mention the plots of the movies, might make it all sound like some kind of circus, but it’s more than that.

The slide show was uneven in quality, but I sure don’t regret spending my money.

Tomorrow and the day after he’s going to be here in Madrid. I’m looking forward!

If anyone’s in the New York City area, Crispin Glover is coming to the Museum of Arts and Design with his roadshow in June.

It Is Fine! EVERYTHING IS FINE. and What Is It? will both play on separate days, preceded by his Big Slideshow. Book signing and Q&A afterward.
