They do, but if you look at the conditions the OP sets, they ask for 3 characters, not exclusively, where the plot hinges on their interactions not just a film with 3 characters in it.

2001 – HAL, Dave and Frank – Floyd is only a setup to the mission.
Rashomon – The Thief, The Man and the Woman – the main action hinges on their story.
