Final scene, making-of

Am I the only one who is puzzled by the making of this glorious scene?

Starting from 1:46, we see a dolly-out on a photomontage (?) of a whole landscape transfered into the Abbey of San Galgano. And then, tons of fake snow coming down on all of this. The snow is easy to explain, but what about the hills, the house and the pond?
