I’m shittin rainbows here. Finally Bogdanovich has a film in the collection. Lord knows he’s earned it! How many times has he been included in interviews and overviews of films in the collection? Hopefully Criterion can get a hold of Targets, too….

Poor Peter. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Is it Last Picture Show? I guess that’s the obvious choice.

I’m looking forward to that set. In the back of my head, i kind if hoped this thread would be about an At Long Last Love Criterion

easy rider?

@ At Long Last Love

The film opened in March 1975 to scathing reviews and poor box office returns, prompting Bogdanovich to have an open letter of apology printed in newspapers throughout the U.S.

At Long Last Love was acclaimed as one of the worst films ever made in Harry and Michael Medved’s The Golden Turkey Awards: Nominees and Winners, the Worst Achievements in Hollywood History (1980). They also listed the film in The Hollywood Wall of Shame, writing “The choreography set new standards for flat-footed incompetence, while Bogdanovich’s perfectionist refusal to lip-synch the musical numbers drove the budget through the roof. To date, the movie has earned back less than one-fourth its cost of $6 million.”1

To date, there has never been a home video release of the film in any format.

At Long Last Love was really bad. i watched it just recently. it deserved everything it got in the 70’s!!

i wish Criterion released Last Picture Show or Paper Moon seperately, but you can’t have it all. at least one is in the boxset.

I’d take any Bog on Criterion, most of his works need re-releases, especially all between “All Laughed” and “Picture Show”. “Saint Jack”!

I was so busy shittin rainbows that i didn’t realize that they came in a box set! oh, man, i hope BN has it 50% off sale again in november… preorder that bitch! fingers crossed why is it that as soon as i think that i don’t want any more criterions they go and put stuff out like this? its just wrong! wrong, i say

Dear Criterion gods,

Please add Targets to the collection. Thanks. :-D

I’ve always liked Bogdanovich’s films….yes, he stepped in it with AT LONG LAST LOVE and NICKELODEON (that one could have been great!), but he’s put out some real classics:

The Last Picture Show
Targets
What’s Up Doc?
Paper Moon
Saint Jack
Mask

I have to admit, I tried to watch DAISY MILLER on cable and could not get past the first 15 minutes. Cybill Shephard has been fine in some things, but Henry James(!?!?)…

I’m surprised they’re not including Texasville on the Last Picture Show DVD. It’s a Columbia/Sony release as well…

I’d kill for the Texasville directors cut thats only been available on laserdisc. Anyone got a rip/bootleg dvd link? I’d pay happily…

to be honest, his dvds usually get good treatment and he is always there with a commentary track, personally I get kick of sick of hearing him talk about certain films.

The main value he has these days is as someone who can get Other Side of the Wind unearthed.

@dennis motion carried! get on it Criterion! i love that film.
