Depp as The Mad Hatter…marvelous.
I predict the film will be glorious or dreadful, no in between. I will be there with bells on.
:)
I’m still a Burton fan regardless of what is said about him on this site. I look forward to it.
Burton needs to recapture the fairy-tale (grim, or otherwise) nature of his best work, and this is a property that at one time I would have wanted no one but him to develop. That was before Apes and Big Fish. I’m rooting for him, but it will be, at best, a faithful adaptation of the mainstream idea of the source rather than the source itself.
Carroll’s book was too much of-its-time to be faithfully adapted—unless Burton can give its politically satirical references modern-day relevance. Now that would be brilliant. Who would be the Red Queen? The Mad Hatter?
I have a feeling I will pass on this. The animated movie is fine by me. As was gene-kickass-Wilder in the chocolate factory. I’m stubborn.
Ehhh, I don’t know. I’ve always really liked Tim Burton. And I felt like Sweeney Todd was a perfect use of his style. But now that it’s been topped for me, I worry that I’ll be bored if he keeps doing the same thing over and over. He has a distinct style which I respect a lot, but it’s starting to get a little boring.
Images are definitely intriguing but I wont make any hard judgments until I actually see the film. Excited nonetheless.
Tim Burton has great talent and potential but he so often fails to live up to it as in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
I can’t help but be excited about this. It’s one of my favorite stories and I hope that, as Josh Ryan said, he can tell it the way it was originally meant to be told. Tim Burton has definitely had his ups and downs for me, but I was completely shocked by how much I loved his retelling of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I’m not sure how I feel about these images, except that they have me wanting to avoid any more info about the film so it will all be new and exciting when I see it. I’d like to believe that he can do this well. What I’m really hoping is that Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter come up with something new and interesting. I’m tiring of them a bit (as a pair, with Burton) and they could very easily be what ruins it for me.
It looks like a good mix between the classic Alice In Wonderland Disney cartoon and Svankmajer’s Alice.
Mia Wasikowska was marvelous as a self-destructive personality in the first season of HBO’s “In Treatment”.
Amazing!
I really love Svankmajer’s one and I can’t really imagine an adaptation of Carroll’s novel better that his. But from this early pics I gather that only Deep’s interpretation can spoil all the rest.
@DYLAN: “It looks like a good mix between the classic Alice In Wonderland Disney cartoon and Svankmajer’s Alice.”
That actually sounds like a perfect film. Let’s hope…
this looks so amazing!
“I will have VENGEANCE…..” Oh wait, wrong movie. Anne Hathaway as Alice = Yum. I can’t wait to see how Helena Bonham Carter acts up as the queen. =D
Looks like a film version of a Mark Ryden painting. Which is positive.
I think this should suit Burton and it looks promising. I’ve been going off him a bit recently but here i’m hopeful.
I agree that it looks great, but all of Burton’s films look great, even if they’re unwatchable.
Anne Hathaway = The White Queen, btw.
I like the landscape photos but I’m a little tired of Johnny Depp starring in all of his movies having a top hat, weird hairstyle, and funny voice. Whatever, I’m still anxious to see it.
Josh, yeah, I read that about Anne Hathaway’s character being The White Queen. Silly me. Yum all the same.
Ignatz! Wow, that’s the first thing I thought when I saw these, especially the picture of Helena as the Queen of Hearts.
I’m super excited. These images are even more amazing than I was anticipating. Simply breathtaking! Also: Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar and Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts! Eee!
Some more photos:

The film is actually a sequel to the original story, and follows Alice, now 17 years old, as she escapes from a snooty party and follows a white rabbit down a hole, back to Wonderland. The White Rabbit is convinced that he has the right girl, the one who had visited the magical land ten years prior. But Alice doesn’t remember her past visit to Wonderland. The creatures of Wonderland are ready to revolt and are hoping/waiting for Alice to help them, but will she? Can she?
Alice in Wonderland hits theaters on March 5th 2010.
Great pictures!! I definetly wonna see it
Cool.
Some one needs to take away his DGA card…what’s next a remake of A Clockwork Orange?
>>The film is actually a sequel to the original story<<
Now I’m even more intrigued.
Looks awesome! These pics have me intrigued, and I’m not even the biggest Tim Burton fan.
it probably won’t be THE top Burton film but am as excited as most of you are around here :)
i highly doubt it will surpass Alice in Wonderland the animation….but i can already see the twisted atmosphere in it,hehe.
I was more interested when it looked like it was going to be a straightforward adaptation. This new plot doesn’t look interesting at all. I’m sick to death of stories about little goddamn girls and their little goddamn fantasy worlds.
