Temple of Doom (just kidding, hate it). Since you mentioned Modern Times, The Gold Rush as well (two scenes, no less). The Godfather always makes me hungry. The Meaning of Life does the opposite, but is still relevant.
The Cook, the Thief, the Wife and Her Lover, maybe?
There is that strudel and cream that is so lovingly filmed in Inglourious Basterds.
I think there’s actually a sort of tiny subgenre of film that involves the cultural appreciation of some food or another. It’s not as prevalent as the subgenre of literature that reads like an author wanting to turn a cookbook into a story about how awesome it is to be middle class, and usually the cinematic subgenre I refer to is focused more on a sort of specific culture.
American Adobo comes to mind. Tampopo. Maybe even, for working class America’s sake, Mystic Pizza. Or how about Fried Green Tomatoes, including its use of honey?
Then there’s just the obvious. Melvin Goes to Dinner, My Dinner with Andre, etc.

Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie
Big Night comes to mind.

I’m looking for great or special movies that evolve around food or eating or have great table scenes – like la grande bouffe (1973), delicatessen, modern times, etc.
