I’m seeing Arcade Fire at Lollapalooza this Sunday!
Brad, You are one lucky man. AC is at the top of “my bands to see live” list. But they seem to show no inclination in coming to my neck of the woods :(
Oh, I forgot to mention that tonight’s show broadcast will be on youtube !
Just saw them in Boston a coupe days ago. Unforgettable….
“But they seem to show no inclination in coming to my neck of the woods :(”
Then go to theirs?
—DiB
“Then go to theirs?”
Easier said than done. The closest they’ve come to me in the past was Atlanta, who’s nine hours away by car. That gets pretty expensive. So is flying to see them. I’m not a rich bitch yet :p When I am, I sure will !
Arcade Fire = musical equivalent of Donnie Darko and Wes Anderson. Bloated sentiment mixed with phony catharsis.
Ari , We thank you for your insightful musical expertise. We hope that you feel better you got to shit all over something just because you don’t like it . Now, we ask that you kindly get bent !
Kyle, same here. Ari, shut up.
hahaha Arcade Fire fans are so touchy. I didn’t even say anything that nasty. “OMFG he like criticized the bestest band ever”. Michel, I ask that you kindly get better music taste.
I appreciate the concern for my musical taste but I’m quite happy with it at the moment.
It’s not about being touchy. Did you by any chance not read the thread title? I specified it was for fans of the band only. Is it really that hard to not click on something that is of no interest to you? Or is it that your are so bloated with a sense of self that you feel the need to state your opinion where it serves no purpose whatsoever? I’m really curious as to what you were hoping to accomplish. Now for the love of all that is holy, will you quit being a dick? We get it ! You’re too awesomesauce to like Arcade Fire. You get 10 cool points !
Its top on my netflix queue. I can’t wait to watch it.
This Brazil cover is wonderful, I have always meant to check these out but for some reason never got round to it, which is odd as this sort of Broken social scene sound I really love, think I’ll download Funeral.
EDIT – lovely FLAC http://holyfuckingshit40000.blogspot.com/2010/01/arcade-fire-flac.html
Michel, Sorry, I didn’t know we made threads here that only uncritical fanboys had the right to post in. But thanks for the cool points! Do I get 10 more if I say that I saw them when they were just starting out? In fact, Terry Gilliam is of interest to me and the fact that he is wasting his time with a concert film for the world’s most overrated band is worth commenting on. Plus I hate the fact that I can’t turn on the internets now without seeing them mentioned with gushing hyperbole as Win Butler profoundly contemplates contemporary alienated suburban existence. Is that good enough for you?
Ari , I’m not bothered by your take of the band. I could not give a rat’s tail as it will have no effect on my enjoyment of the music. I’m mostly bothered by the context. Nobody was discussing the merits of the band. Had I started a thread that said “Do you like or dislike Arcade Fire? Why” , I would have more than welcomed your comments as I am always happy to hear a dissident point of view . But I did not…
As for them being the most overrated band in the world, You seem to forget that it’s your opinion and not some objective truth. So stop stating it as if it were. Maybe Gilliam found value in their music which is why he’s “wasting” his time with this.Or he was asked to do so by the band and was kind enough to obliged them? The reasons why are kind of irrelevant. It’s his time, after all . Not really sure why you care….
Also, i’m not really sure where you see gushing hyperbole on this thread…..
Michel, get over yourself. The context is that this is a discussion board in which topics that get posted are discussed, debated and argued over by people who both like and dislike the topic of discussion. Name calling and hurling insults at someone because they dissed your favorite band is beyond pathetic. It’s interesting to see that the pompous self-importance and utter inability to laugh at oneself that characterizes the band wears off on some of their fans.
“You seem to forget that it’s your opinion and not some objective truth. So stop stating it as if it were.”
I didn’t realize you were one of those people who fails to understand that when you read a judgment attached to a person’s name on a discussion board that it is in fact an opinion and doesn’t need to be spelled out as such.
I haven’t managed to get into their last two albums as much as I did with Funeral, but i enjoyed that cover and I am curious about the webcast, if for no other reason than Gilliam’s involvement kind of automatically warrants it, heh.
“Michel, get over yourself”
I will just as soon as you get over yourself. Again, your opinion here served no purpose whatsover beyond your need to express it. Notice how you’re just about the only source of negativity on the thread. Mainly because other MUBI members who don’t care for Arcade Fire(and I’m willing to bet there are a multitude of them) probably did not bother to click on the thread, let alone comment on it. People like you are the reason why the rest of us will never experience peace. They just can’t seem to leave well enough alone. Enjoy being a dick . I have wasted enough time on you !
Michel, look at any other thread on this site in which anything is announced and see people who like and dislike the people behind it chiming in. Actually people like you are the problem with this place. Overly sensitive crybabies who can’t handle it when people criticize things they like and expect everyone to walk on eggshells to protect their delicate and fragile tastes. If you don’t like that someone writes a critical comment about the topic of your thread, you can ignore it or argue with the comment itself rather than call the person a “dick” or tell them to “get bent”. It’s amusing that the fragile flowers are often the same people who start with personal insults themselves because they usually have nothing else to go on.
Whatever dude !
Oh and for the last time , I did not adress your comment itself because I wasn’t looking to have a debate on the merits of the band. When I want to do so, I will start a thread to that endI took issue to your unecessary disruptive intrusion. Feel free to comb through all of my comments on this site and see that I have never thrown insults at anyone before. Not my style at all. But today, I saw a spade. I called it such !
C’mon guys, take stuff like this to your walls.
Ari, I more or less agree with you on Arcade Fire, and you’re still sort of being a cock. No offense.
And, yes, this post is full of hypocrisy.
I plead no contest to those charges, Aibohphobia. I respond to you with a few choice words, madam: racecar, pop, level, civic, deed, etc.
AUGH!! NO, ANYTHING BUT THAT!!!
Maybe you need some XANAX now?
I do hate how people always feel the need to say your favorite band/movie/director/book/restaurant/car/therapist sucks. It always reeks of better-than-you, whether or not that was the intent (though, to be fair, it usually is). And three in a single sentence, honestly?
I much prefer Beirut’s version, but then again, I much prefer Beirut as a band.
This is an interesting idea though. I’ll probably give it a watch. Thanks for pointing it out.
Now I’m watching ‘Arcade Fire live from MSG’! It’s a MIRACLE!!!!!! YEAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
I wanna buy a this concert DVD! I wanna go to AC concert! I can’t wait!
Like how they fucked up “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)” and started over. This has been great!
& Andrew Garfield<3
“Like how they fucked up “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)” and started over”

Tonight , Terry Gilliam will direct a global webcast of Arcade Fire’s Madison Square concert ! He will also host a pre-show Q&A with the band !
This is the next best thing to being physically there. I’m beyond excited for this and I thought I would post this just in case anyone cares.
Here’s Arcade Fire covering the song “Brazil” from Gilliam’s movie :
