Ah, Tommy, but we can dream :-)….they did find the extra footage for “Metropolis” so I still like to think that, against astronomical odds, somewhere……maybe somewhere.
Yeah I’ve heard about the new Metropolis that will soon be out. It just baffles me how pieces of films can become missing and/or “lost”. Like Murnau’s Four Devils. After I watched a documentary about the film which basically reconstructs the entire film by stills from the film and storyboards, I felt that this could be Murnau’s best film. Unfortunately, it’s “lost”.
I’ve forgotten, was the film as originally planned by the filmmaker supposed to be called McTeague? I would prefer that title to Greed but if Stroheim wanted Greed to the title then it’s okay.

I’ve seen very few films by Stroheim so I am particularly excited to see that TCM is playing two films by Stoheim Wednesday morning. The first is The Merry Widow at 6 am and Greed at 830am. So set your dvr.
