I’ve only seen XXY from the list so far. It’s a very sensitive and restrained look at the struggles hermophrodites and their parents can face, and I found it to be engrossing. I’d recommend it :)

in the year of the pig is a great war documentary from the 60s if anyone hasn’t seen it. i’ve seen a number of interesting short films too. here is a particularly beautiful one 0101
I agree, In the Year of the Pig is a solid documentary.
@Bobby
Did you see Adieu Philipines for free? I don’t think I’m able to see that one.
@Cecil
Thanks.
Yes, “Adieu” is for free as part of the Cannes Critic’s Week selection. I’m planning to watch “In the Year of the Pig” as soon as possible.
has anyone seen Rocky Road to Dublin yet? i might give that a whirl…
Here are a few thoughts on some of the films currently showing on MUBI’s Semaine de la Critique retrospective with more to come.
If you like experimental cinema Pièce touchée is a gem (:
Hmm, I’m not able to view Adieu Philippine. :(
i can’t watch rocky road to dublin either :\ there are apparently some geographical restrictions. and pièce touchée is pretty cool
Seems I don’t even have the option of watching “In the Year of the Pig” because it doesn’t show up as a movie that MUBI has in the collection.
Lascars was pretty fun to watch.
Cool thread, Jazz.
Thanks, Odi—although props should be given to Bobby, as he basically tried to do the same thing in this thread
Props to Bobby Wise!
BTW, thanks for the tip re: 0101, Ruby. I’m familiar with Jesus Olmo from vimeo, and it’s great to see his work on Mubi too.
I saw Fat Girl and Climates for free last year. They were awesome, can’t wait to beging my viewing.
Thank you The Auteurs/Mubi

I think the offering of free movies at the site is a good thing, but I don’t think I’ve ever watched a film. I don’t know if anyone feels the same way I do, but the main reason I don’t is because I know very little about the films. Add to the fact that a) I don’t have a lot of time and energy to watch films; b) my list of “to see” films is huge. In a way, my feeling towards the free movies is a lot like my feeling towards the offerings at the Hawaii International Film Festival. I haven’t heard of many of the films and filmmakers and I feel like going to a film is a crapshoot. Again, my film viewing time is scarce so I don’t feel like taking this chance.
So I wanted to start a thread for people to recommend and rave about the free films here. A strong recommendation by one or more people could entice me to see a film. Are there any that should be seen?
