Ahh, so that’s how you do it!

Also, here’s a link to the 1976 documentary “Goddo supiido yuu! Burakku emparaa” (Godspeed you! Black Emperor) by Mitsuo Yanagimachi. I spent years trying to get this doc before finding a copy on DVD; here it is on Veoh! Apparently now you have to download some viewer from Veoh, but it’s safe and worth taking a look.

Haha, I know! I looked for that doc for EIGHT YEARS.

Well to be honest I’d forget about it for a few months, then try to look for it again and become disillusioned, then repeat. At the time I’d just heard “Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven” and was curious about the band’s name. I’d also been reading about Bōsōzoku biker gangs. When I found out that that was what the doc was about, well I just had to see it, didn’t I?

@ Daniel, yeah I love the band Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and I didn’t know they had taken their name from a film, though that makes sense. I always thought it was a line from some obscure Jacobean tragedy. Beautiful stirring music.

oh, this is already shaping up to be the best thread of them all. good, good, good deal. thanks everyone. please keep the links coming. the more obscure the film the better.

It’s curious to see a Criterion sister site like this supporting a thread linking to illegal copies of theirs and others’ films. Long live free speech…uh, I guess.

As great as criterion is, sometimes they overprice items. I saw Pickpocket online because I’m not spending $39.95 for a 75 minute movie, no matter how many extras it has. Plus if I like it enough I will buy it, if I don’t then I didn’t waste my money.

Any of you guys use karagarga.net? I used to have an account, but I unfortunately lost it due to the fact that I was unable to maintain my upload ratio. I guess the films that I was seeding were a little too obscure, and no one downloaded them. Anyway, it was insanely difficult to get an invite, but man do I ever miss it. I found so many titles that I spent years before trying to track down. I was even able to locate many older festival titles that never were released outside of the theaters. If you are a true cinefile, and you can find anyway to get an invite to the site, I would highly recogmend it.

Uzak, never heard of it.
I’ll have to check it out maybe sometime this week.
See if i can’t swing an invite.
Thanks for the tip.

I nearly forgot about this thread, but this film popped up in conversation:

Pull My Daisy, aka The Beat Generation

A 1959 short film by Alfred Leslie and Robert Frank, narrated by Jack Kerouac and starring Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, and Peter Orlovsky. I’ve only ever managed to see two versions, one with the “Pull My Daisy” title credit (which was a bad VHS transfer from German television) and the link above, a bad VHS transfer from Italian television titled “The Beat Generation.”

Steidl released several box sets of Robert Frank’s films, but I haven’t seen them – can anyone on The Auteurs attest to the quality?

The problem I have watching any films on the internet is they look like shit. Utter garbage. Who wants to watch works of art that you can hardly see. That look absolutely terrible. Not me.

I’d usually be one to agree with that STRAWDAWG, but the youtube links COL. DAX linked to really are quite clear once you click on the “watch in high quality” link just below the video.
