Javier Bardem’s character in Mar Adentro. He’s a quadriplegic fighting for the right to die. I wasn’t quite convinced but it’s definitely a strong character.

I just finished watching Neil Jordan’s “Ondine” and very taken with Alison Barry’s portrayal of Annie. Instead of the stereotypically fragile disabled child we get this wry little girl who just may be to smart for her own good.
Recently I rewatched “My Left Foot”. Day-Lewis’ Christy Brown was no saint either. A right bastard who drank too much and was also a little too opinionated for his own good.
Can anyone name me some other portrayals of disabled people that fit the bill?
