Thanks Kid Law. Prob should throw Maniac out there too and Rocky Horror Picture Show
Cyborg ( true van damme), Roadhouse( vintage swayze), Uncle Buck (pre home alone culkin and a game john candy), the water boy ( how he gets them done is beyond me), driven (stallone at his best), ishstar (the king of flops).
Yes! Finally someone mentions “Rocky Horror Picture Show.” A Great cult classic, even better to watch it in Halloween with an audience that’s already dressed up for the roles…
Another good/bad movie that I like is “The Devil Wears Prada.” Since I have a lot of friends and family working in the Fashion Industry, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and I thought a lot of the observations were hilarious and right-to-the-point. And just like usual, Meryl Streep was mesmerizing as the notorious Vogue editor… Also, I must say that I don’t consider “Prada” as a bad movie, though I feel like based on the standards that it might be judged, I felt like it might belong to the “Good Bad Movies” category…
American psycho
Plan 9 from outer space (unintentionally the funniest movie out there)
Alien 3
Bubba ho-tep
Christine (along with almost all other stephen king based films)
Pink Flamingos (ewww)
and others
I am sorry to say this but I think michael bay is too horrible to fall under this category. For me they’re anti-orgasms in film format, but i can see why people like them.
I find that The Transporter is possibly my personal Die Hard. It’s the perfect “bad” action movie.

Mother Jugs & Speed
Moonrunners
Death Flight SST
Battlefield Earth
Joe Dirt
How are these movies “bad” if we like them so much? I always found this concept very odd.
I’m really curious about what the criteria are for a “bad” movie. Are we talking mainstream Hollywood dreck-bad? That seems to be the majority of what’s being listed. (Don’t get me wrong – I like a lot of these, too – esp. Howard the Duck and Beastmaster.)
But what about other kinds of bad?
- Italian horror (someone did mention I Spit on Your Grave.)
- South American horror, like the nunsploitation movies.
- Blaxploitation
- And what about all the underground schlock that Something Weird Video puts out? H.G. Lewis’s stuff and Doris Wishman’s fabulously horrible spy movies featuring Chesty Morgan.
(Think I’m going to go start a thread right now about Something Weird.)
I think if you watch a film and you enjoy it, and there’s something about it that’s memorable, there’s gotta be something “good” about it. Otherwise you’re making an arbitrary distinction between good/bad that usually indicates “cheap” or “not cheap”. I’d rather watch 500 straight to video cop movies than watch another goddamn Inarritu picture.
How about we start a thread called “Bad Good Films” instead?
I must agree with those who said Troll 2 and Chopping Mall, those are two of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. I’d also like to add:
Squirm
Samurai Cop
Rats: Night of Terror
Black Roses
They Live
Class of 1984!
Go see it, it’s so unintentionally hilarious. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s like “The Substitute” but over-the-top ’80’s, the gang that the teacher fights off looks like the crooks in the Death Wish sequels, there’s a young Michael J. Fox and Roddy McDowell takes his class hostage. Excellent! “Take a look at my face, I am the future!” Sung by an over the hill Alice Cooper.
True Lies
Miami Vice
my favourite genre is kaiju, just about of all them fall in to the ‘good bad’ category
There is a film called ‘Freaked’ made by and starring the guy from Bill & Ted’s excellent adventure that wasn’t keanu reeves, it has creature designs that look like big daddy roth hot rod illustrations and a cameo from Mr.T.
It was almost as if it was intentionally made to be a good bad film, and is surprisingly great.
Phantom of the Paradise
I always find myself watching Saving Silverman…and liking it.
“Joe Paule – 3 months ago – MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE”
YES!!!! The greatest bad movie ever made.
I love “Toys”. There, I said it.
I have an unnatural love for Arnie’s “The Running Man” and Van Damme’s “Bloodsport”. Thinking about it, they’re the two films I quote the most.
Oh, and I have bad, cheesy 80’s pop rock songs from both soundtracks that I regularly play on my iPod without irony (“Running Away With You” by John Parr and “Steal the Night” by Michael Bishop).
I disagree with the opening statement. “Cable Guy” is a quite good.
I thought “Cable Guy” was so funny I immediately re-watched it. Never really grokked all the hating.
OMG, I have to say that the best worst movie ever for me is Mamma Mia…. It’s a mistake in every aspect (WHAT IS THAT CINEMATOGRAPHY?? terrible!!!) but it is so ridiculously entertaining…..
Hey, why are you mentioning movies that are far from “bad” (or at least what I consider bad). I mean Army of Darkness is not BAD film, not in the way Juan C.P. described it.
For me such movie will be Showgirls. I fucking LOVE Paul Verhoeven, but this movie is really bad. Which doesn’t stop me from enjoying it.
Worst film of the 1980s: “Do the Right Thing,” a pointless inter-racial screaming contest set in the cleanest ghetto you’ll ever see.
Haha, I remember the Showgirls years.
Demi Moore was also coming out with that film Striptease, and everybody got all excited about her tits.
Such a bad film, but somehow found it amusing.
MR.E2ME – I loooooved TOYS. I consumed so much BS as a kid… damn.
Hey, I liked Toys. Most surreal, mainstream Christmas movie starring Robin Williams.
Glen or Glenda and Plan 9 are brilliant. My high-school Fiction and Film class didn’t really get it, my friend and I were laughing.
Robot Monster is good and so is The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zomies.
Manos:The Hands of Fate would be tourture without MST3K.
Halim Cillov
Hey Damien, I agree with you, “Sixteen Candles” is really great(!)… Too bad a lot of people still look down on the high-school movie genre, especially the ones that has more sense-of-humor than drama…
