Love, love, LOVE New York.
Hounds of Love is a great album, I thought of it as a selection and Harvest wish i’d side stepped the classical stuff now and just stuck to albums
New York is a great album. I guess the reason it’s partially forgotten is because it arrived so late. It also came out at a time when all these ‘old guards’ were making big comebacks. Hell even Roy Orbison made a huge comeback!!! The late 80’s was really the last time for that hhehe.
Not really a comeback to me . . . Mistrial kinda lame, but New Sensations right before that is quite good. Even Legendary Hearts ain’t bad. And he’d just seven years before New York * (1989) he’d released *The Blue Mask (1982), which is arguably his greatest album. And of course,
You’re right, though, that was a great time for older artists reaching late-career peaks—even Neil Young had Freedom (1989) solo, followed the next year by Ragged Glory with Crazy Horse.
“I excluded classic country artists, because they make amazing singles and
awful albums. "
Even, say, Atlantic-era Willie Nelson? Late ’60s Haggard? Buck Owens Sings Harlan Howard? Early Dwight Yoakam?
My favorite Lou Reed album: METAL MACHINE MUSIC :P (It’s Berlin)
hey now, there’s nothing wrong with metal machine music
Alexandra,
There’s a lot of things wrong with Metal Machine Music.
I don’t even know where to begin.
well, i like it… :’(
It’s not the kind of record you just throw on the turntable.
speak for yourself, i’m about to rock out to some screeches right now
I suggest jumping right to about 6:20 into “Metal Machine Music, Part I.”
Requiem – Mozart
Requiem for my friend – Zbigniew Preisner
Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven – Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Rain Dogs – Tom Waits
Bone Machine – Tom Waits
In the Court of the Crimson King – King Crimson
Damnation – Opeth
First Utterance – Comus
Illmatic – Nas
Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) – Wu-Tang Clan
I’m like this close to buying Metal Machine Music but I also don’t want to pay for it… :/
Whether you end up shelling money out for it or not, you’ll end up paying.
do it papa and then listen to it, it sounds good and you’ll feel good
it is the last day and i will hardly be able to listen to more than i have already listened. if memory serves:
rhys chatham – Die Donnergötter
Un Homme Qui Dort OST – i don’t know if there is such a thing as a specially issued soundtrack for that movie, but its sound desingn is fantastic
greymachine – disconnected
nadja – either skin turns to glass or desire in uneasiness or numbness
forest swords – either dagger paths or fjree feather
zu – carboniferous
marc ribot – requiem for what’s his name (i shouln’t post this, but it was one of my high school all-time faves, so i’ll have to pay a homage)
AUN – either VII or black pyramid
ufomammut – idolum
Black engine – ku klux klowns / dale cooper quartet & the dictaphones – parole de navarre
“I’m like this close to buying Metal Machine Music but I also don’t want to pay for it… :/”
It’s good for breaking up parties and driving the neighbor’s dog out of your yard. :)
i’m sick of you noise bigots trying to keep us down
^ The thing is, I like noise, but most of the time just if there’s some kind of rhythmic component to keep me engaged. So I love Yellow Swans and Burning Star Core, but Merzbow and Prurient to me are just novelties to occasionally listen to to see how loud and abbrasive they can get. And it sounds like Metal Machine Music will be more of the latter than the former.
Rapciune – I like Nadja a lot – I’ve only listened to Radiance of Shadows, though – I’ve added the ones you mentioned to my wish list!
POLL CLOSED
Thanks to everyone who voted, i’ll post the results on a new thread within the next few days….
