Post punk is much better, if we’re allowed to post that. I’m on about bands like This Heat.

If you had read the OP or taken the time to look through the videos, you’d see this thread contains music from long before “punk” was a word, or a genre, or a fashion… until long after “punk” was dead. To quote the great D. Boon “Punk is whatever we made it to be”. More of a state of mind isn’t it?

So yeah post whatever you’d like to post I say!

And This Heat is an amazing band no matter what genre they are (I still don’t think I could answer that question haha):

:) i wonder how far down the old anarcho-crust powerviolence route (aka memory lane) this definition of punk stretches to. anyway i just found a video with an ex boyf in so that’s enough for me for today.

But I did read the thread and that’s why I had to ask, because of the conspicuous lack of post punks. In fact, not one single post punk song. Deceit is good but the first LP is better.

This Heat listened to Soft Machine and other kinds of bands. I don’t even know very much about this kind of music but If we’re pushing the definition then I could post Electrifying Mojo shit and even this..

I am willing to argue this point.

In fact, not one single post punk song.

Ummm, The Fall, Kleenex/Lilliput, Wire, Pere Ubu, Minutemen, Swell Maps, Shoes This High, As Mercenarias… Do I really need to go on?

Also, I’m not personally trying to push the definition… I’m going by JOL’s original post, and the Mojo article he referenced… Which I thought did a pretty good job of explaining the way I look at punk. But this is coming from someone who thinks that Captain Beefheart is just as punk as Johnny Rotten… So I realize everyone looks at these things differently.
