Ruby, I found myself at a bar chatting with the lead singer of the Stiff Little Fingers once. Turns out he lives in Chicago and is married to a former co-worker of my fiancee.

I like The Fall.

Always different, always the same.

Yeah the Fall are one of my favorites too HP

I recently watched that BBC 4 documentary The Wonderful and Frightening World of Mark E. Smith from 2005. Nothing spectacular, just went over the chaotic history of the band, and there were some nice interviews… AND it featured the late great John Peel as well =)

Ah, come on, kids. There’s no way we’ve exhausted this yet, and I am eager for feedback on my proposed selections.

And also, what better week then this one to revive this thread?

So this is what other kids mean when they say Forever Alone…

It’s okay, I’m no stranger to the blues of being unduly lone;

I’m also tempted to post some “protopunk” if anyone thinks that would be appropriate. :)

Superb picks—perhaps ‘Annalisa’ above all.

And please, proto away.

Whenever I listen to The Velvet Underground’s “Heroin”, I imagine a montage of sex and death. It releases the Freudian in me.

An under appreciated Black Flag song:

@Cineastic
That’s vaguely my reaction to most Velvet Underground songs.

Oh Lord. Henry Rollins is a beast.

I’ve always found this tune protopunk-ish. It’s certainly very riff-heavy and anti establishment.

A fine snarky tune for one’s inner mod.

I concur with Wavves. That song I posted was one of the highlights of their new album. The rest is kind of disappointing.
