Nobody mentioned Branagh’s Much Ado About Nothing….loved it.
Ran is majestic but i found it also a bit plodding. Harada Mieko steals the show. I prefer Kozintsev’s Lear.
I’m shocked, shocked as Claude Rains, that Gnomeo and Juliet has yet to be mentioned.
And Lubitsch’s To Be or Not to Be may not qualify but it’s as good as any Shakespeare adaptation. Who could forget his silent film Romeo and Juliet in the Snow?
Quite fond of Ken Branagh’s Hamlet as well as Franco Zeffirelli’s version.
