Those of you who have not yet made the switch to Blu-ray, but do intend to, what is your philosophy on this sale?

I expect to be Blu-ray by the end of the year give or take a month or two, but I can’t bring myself to buy Blu-ray DVDs this far in advance. There will be more sales down the line and I’ll have more money to spend. So, I’m looking at the available DVDs and considering three things:

1. Which do I want the most?

2. Which have I wanted the longest?

3. Which do I think have a very slim chance of being relased on Blu-ray?

Anyone else thinking like this?

Anyway, with that in mind I’m going with The Fire Within and Bob le flambeur for sure. Closely Watched Trains probably… Then, I dunno, maybe I’ll wing it on another one or two.

Does anyone think the three I’ve mentioned have a shot at being released on Blu-ray in the future? I’m sure if Blu-ray is as hugely successful as regular DVD Criterion might want to eventually try releasing all their movies in Blu-ray, but I don’t see that happening.

Is it available for Canada too?

Fredo

Shotzi – I don’t think you have to worry about any of those three films getting released on BD anytime soon. If you look at the films Criterion has released so far on BD from their existing catalog, most of them have been more popular titles. My guess is that 8 1/2 and films like that are the most likely to get released on BD in the near future.

I got laid off from my work today which means I got a huge severence package! Might have to take a trip to that dreaded Grove tomorrow and see what they got shakin at the BN.

And I don’t start my new job (which is at a major studio – meaning free screenings and free DVDS!) for a week and half so it’s vacation time for me! Jesus, think of all the movies I can watch…

Seriously though, this sale couldn’t have come at a better time.

Any canadians buyers here? Just to know how much hidden fees or something I should expect, considering the fact that we have to pay the shipping and the US$ to CAN$ conversion.

I think you’re right, Fredo, I just wanted someone to agree with me or see if maybe someone has some inside info I didn’t know about.

MARC,
MontreaI QC. I bought 3 discs, each were $19.99 = $59.97. They charged $9.96 for Shipping and Processing and Tax was $3.00. TOTAL $72.93. I am assuming this is US Dollars even though I did go thru Barnes&Noble.ca
I picked the slow ship (was it 9-11 days?)
FYI I bought Mon Oncle Antoine which as you may know can’t be found in Quebec stores. Does anybody know why?

Marc G.

Thank you. I’m from Quebec too so it really gives me a good approximation. You can watch Mon Oncle Antoine on the official website of ONF, without subtitles: http://onf.ca/film/mon_oncle_antoine. A lot of Quebec’s masterpieces can be found on this website.

MDB

Yes. Great website. I haven’t thought to look for Kamouraska there. Thanks for the reminder.
