What do you guys think:

Essential art house: Ikiru + Colonel Blimp + 400 Blows

or

Samuel Fuller Box Set

for around the same price. Which to choose?

Sean Keeley

Well I don’t know anything about Sam Fuller, but I think Ikiru and The 400 Blows are both undeniable masterpieces, so I would go with the first option.

The Dreyer Collection isn’t on sale :(

Law

What?! I badly wanted the Dreyer collection!

Oh well, I’ll just enjoy the rest of the sale.

Why would the Dreyer Box Set not be on sale?

What else isn’t on sale?

You have to take notice that not every Criterion DVD is on sale. Titles like Last Year at Marienbad, Le Trou and Friends of Eddie Coyle are not marked off.

No.
They all are… as long as the tag says “Criterion”

Any idea why the Dreyer boxset is not on sale?

User de Faux-Fuyants

Lona I’m not sure they all are. The “Variety Lights” essential art house isn’t on sale and neither is “The 39 Steps”.

Lona

I will check at work tomorrow. To my knowledge there was no ‘list of exceptions.’ The only thing I can possibly think of is that they are Criterions not categorized as Criterions… but the only one I’ve ever seen that with was the bluray of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Law

Thanks Lona. I just want to be sure that it isn’t a slip up or anything and end up having to ship twice. :)

Fredo

LOL. It’s like a giant Criterion orgy.

Law

Fredo, that’s what this site is.

Reading this thread, I just visualize a mad hoard of people running around throwing their hands in the air yelling and screaming about Criterion DVDs.

It’s great.

I think this is Gods way of saying “I love you cinephiles”.

Law

Drew has just disproved Bergman’s entire Faith Trilogy.

Drew.

We’ve been over this. I truly believe Bergman was a self-hating religious man.

He struggled with God and God’s actions so he said that he was an atheist. Still he did not truly believe there is no God, so religion kept creeping into his films.

Law

Drew, that has a lot to do with the way Bergman was raised. I strongly believe that one’s surroundings during his earlier of childhood has an immense effect on his thoughts, emotions and everything related to his mind in his later life. Hence as Bergman was raised as a god-fearing child and remained so till Winter Light, even after Winter Light he was heavily conflicted about God and his view of its existence.

My joke was actually about God’s silence though.

Drew.

Oooo haha.

I also think Bergman did not as much hate God as he hated his father, and from his childhood he connected the two.
