Encouraged by this thread I decided to use last Criterion promotion and they stole 4$ from me! They took more from my card than it was stated in my bn account. Their customer service doesn’t respond to my emails. I recommend everybody to be careful with them.

fyi, 40% off all Blu-Ray at Barnes & Noble right now..
So close to 50% off yet so far.
They said, they are having this sale twice a year it was last Nov. 2011, when do you think they can have it again?
July 2012 is most likely the next sale. Since I’ve been going the last few years they have always been in July and November.

Oh shit! Just checked my email and guess what I saw???
“Happy Valentine’s Day!
“We wanted you to be the first to know that starting at noon EST tomorrow, February 14, all in-stock Blu-rays and DVDs will be 50% off the suggested retail price (SRP). Just enter the promotional code SWAK on your shopping cart page at Criterion.com to apply the discount.
“To thank you for making a My Criterion wish list, we’ve placed $10 of store credit in your account. To redeem it, just choose the “Apply my account credit to this order” option on the payment page during checkout.
“Enjoy the sale, and thanks again for using My Criterion!
“With love and affection,
The Criterion Collection”
I’m so happy I made a MyCriterion page even after poo-pooing it on this site! I think I’m gonna get 3 Women and Belle De Jour on blu!!

I can’t decide if I should get some fucking blind buys or not! Godzilla? Branded to Kill??
Ugh… now their website is not working… :(
I bought almost everything I wanted in the last few B&N criterion sale. Anyone got any particular suggestions? Unless there are some new interesting eclipses I’ll probably ignore this one.
Jean-Pierre Gorin’s eclipse set sounds really interesting… get that!
The site is apparently quite bombarded. Can’t get through :*(
Same! Do I need to set up an account in order to buy/are there shipping costs?
Took me a half an hour of hitting refresh to finally complete my order. Blus of Belle Du Jour, Three Outlaw Samurai, and Playtime.
Yes, there are shipping costs. Free shipping on orders over $50
Free shipping on orders over $50
Fine… I’ll blind buy Godzilla if I have to!
EDIT: Actually, I think I’ll have to buy something else, too, since I think that’ll put me at $49 something… hmm…
…If I can ever get the website to work long enough to let me buy anything!!!
I just sent them an email telling them what I want, how much it should cost, how to contact me and that I’m willing to complete the transaction via their website whenever the stampede slows down enough for them to fix the problem.
It took some persistence but I got my order placed. Bought Fish Tank, Still Walking, and blind bought Secret Sunshine to put my order over $50 for the free shipping.
PS – For any of you who made fun of Criterion’s new feature a couple months ago of making your own lists on their site, they sent me an email yesterday giving me $10 in credit for making a wish list. So ha!
With this 50% off sale, free shipping, and $10 credit, I got these three for only $49!
oh did you get free shipping even with $49? In that case I guess I only need to buy three… but what??
Ok pick one – in addition to buying Belle De Jour and 3 Women, should I
a) blind buy Godzilla
b) upgrade Solaris to blu
c) upgrade 8 1/2 to blu
?
This choice would be a lot easier if Godzilla didn’t have a fucking popup Godzilla in the packaging!! Why am I so susceptible to gimmicks??
Yes, the free shipping is applied to the cost before the $10 credit. So you should be good.
Regarding those titles, I wouldn’t buy any of those so I’m of no help to you. lol
The original Godzilla is a little better than the hundreds of knock offs that followed it – but not by much. If you’re into those kind of movie, its probably a must, otherwise, I’d upgrade 8 1/2.
Criterion Twitter sez:
“We’re fixing http://Criterion.com as fast as possible and fielding questions on our Facebook wall.”
So they know it’s not working… hopefully they’ll fix it before they run out of all the blus I want!
When the My Criterion thing was brand new I made one in just a couple minutes. Ten bucks for it. But I live in Canada so no free shipping. 25 bucks for it! And probably brokerage fees. Still. Got the Late Ozu Eclipse Set and L’Avventura for $70.
We go nuts for the Barnes & Noble sale months in advance, but how ’bout this?
Went crazy (by my standards) and picked up Seven Samurai, La Jetee/Sans Soleil, The 400 Blows and Wings of Desire (all blu-ray).
Phew.
And yes I had to hit “refresh” like a thousand times.
Is it working again now
for anybody

I’m glad I’m not the only one who got The Exterminating Angel during this latest half-off sale. I got mine this past Saturday.
The other ones I got were (all DVD):
Make Way For Tomorrow
Kapo (Essential Art House)
The Complete Jean Vigo
The Music Room
When I got home, and after I thought about how much I looked at it on the B&N shelf, I actually regretted NOT buying Roberto Rossellini’s War Trilogy.
