Check out www.dvdbeaver.com — they’ve got a handy list of sale items…

Ugh – I don’t know if I should make some blind buys or not. In my cart right now I have:

The BBS Set
Diabolique
The Red Shoes
Black Narcissus
Yi Yi
Secret Sunshine
Beauty and the Beast

But I need to pick out only a couple… if any. >:/

Secret Sunshine is really good.

Black Narcissus is ravishing
Yi Yi is too!

love both these

Tommy: Yeah, I saw that you had rated it five stars. I’m new to recent Asian cinema, though, but maybe it’d be better to go out on a limb and get Secret Sunshine and Yi Yi instead of safer choices like The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus, which I’m pretty sure I’d like, but just haven’t gotten around to yet…

Meg: I think I’ve all but decided on Yi Yi – I’ve read almost nothing but ravishing reviews of it! :)

I love everything Lee Chang Dong has made. Haven’t seen Oasis yet, but all the others have been outstanding.

@DRUNKEN FATHER FIGURE OF OLD

I really can’t recommend The BBS Story enough to people at this price, I feel it’s a bargain at full price let alone this price.

I bought it in one of the B&N sales and although I knew of the films I’d somehow only watched one of them. What an absolute treat, pretty much from start to finish, there are some absolutely wonderful films and it’s also a really good set from Criterion.

The King of Marvin Gardens has become one of those “special” films for me now.

Even if you were to buy it, watch the films once and then sell the set because the films just didn’t work for you it’s likely that the experience will have cost you very little if anything at all.

^I agree. The King of Marvin Gardens was a wonderful surprise.

The BBS set is a must have for any Criterion aficionado.

I blind bought Secret Sunshine a couple months ago. It was worth it. A beautiful little movie.

hey all, still no definitive word on the 50% CC sale, but it usually comes after the buy 2 get 1 free sale. that starts real soon. i think the Criterion sale is usually in July-ish.

RE: BBS, love that box set almost as much as i like the cassavetes box.

I ended up just getting the BBS set and Diabolique. I really wanted to get Yi Yi, too, but I realized that it’ll be the same price at B&N in a couple months and I have a gift card for there, and an apparently good rip is on SMZ so I really have no reason to just watch it first. It was really hard not to buy it though.

But now the prices have gone back up so I’m safe to post here again. :)

MORE DEALS! (Amazon)

http://www.blu-ray.com/deals/?sortby=time&category=bluray&covers=7&popularity=average&genre=all&studioid=70&packaging=

Again, not sure how long they’ll be going on. But take a gander.

It’s not criterion, but I couldn’t find the general dvd deals thread:

The Alien Quadrilogy blu ray set is $29.99 on Amazon for today only. It’s only $10 off their regular price, but whatever. It’s still 63% off the list price.

Yeah, I’ll probably pick that up and sell my Alien/Aliens blu-rays… That deal is just too good to pass up, especially if you enjoy special features.

And for the record, I absolutely loved Yi Yi, so suck it Santino!

Also, I purchased High and Low. I should probably take it easy. But the deals keep on rollin’ in…

Now Yi Yi is a movie with Mubi style!

What’s Ellen Burstyn’s role in Marvin Gardens?
Just saw Harry and Tonto the other day and was blown away by Art Carney. I did like Ellen Burstyn in it though she could have had a bigger screen time.
