I’m officially naming July 15th Criterion Day, because not only is this the day I am making my big purchases, but it is also the day where the next set of Criterion releases are announced.

Zachary Phillip Brailsford

Wait, they’re finally releasing more titles! Good. I didn’t want to wait until the rest of July’s titles come out to find out…

I just wish I could make more purchases. I am going to be moving to Austin in a little over a month, and so I need to save up all of my money for that; at least I was able to get Six Moral Tales. That’s six movies I didn’t have before.

Oh, and one question: Does anyone know WHY they’re having this sale? Are they depleting their stock? Are they no longer going to hold Criterions? It all just sounds a little too Borders-like (the company that I loved until they decided to stop selling movies and CDs in their stores).

Who else plans on getting Night and Fog, just to say they got a Criterion for $7.50?

Red Balloon too! cheap.

Lona

Ahh, Drew! I’m actually really glad you mentioned that… I can’t decide whether I should or not. I’ve never seen it before but it doesn’t seem like something I would want to watch multiple times. It’s so cheap though! Is it worth it?

I think The Red Balloon is the same price too. (maybe I should read things other people say before I talk)

Night and Fog…deserves a place in any dvd library.

Fredo

I’m surprised there are Criterion people who don’t own Night and Fog. Even if you’ve never seen the film, it’s so cheap! And not only does it deserve a place in any DVD library but it’s a monumental film. It’s not a film I rewatch every six months but it’s been nice to have it so I can let others borrow it. A definite must DVD.

All Criterions appeared to be on sale at my store and nearly everything I looked at online was still there by the time I got off work. Picked up An Autumn Afternoon, Au Hasard Balthazar, Life of Brian, The Leopard. Brief Encounter, Il Generale Della Rovere and Paddle to the Sea. Gluttony never felt so good.

Just bought Battle of Algiers, Last Temptation of Christ, and Simon of the Desert for 52 bucks!!!

And there will be more buying… ;)

So far this is the best Criterion DVD sale. I’m considering the 3 Films of Louis Malle on my next purchase. Any good?

I went to a B&N, didn’t like their selection, so I went half an hour out of the way to another Barnes and Noble. Picked up the Cassavettes Box Set, Red Beard (which I’ve never seen in stores!), and Days of Heaven for a grand total of 90 bucks. I basically look at it as like they gave me 30 bucks off the box set and allowed me to take two free Criterions as well. For people who know about Criterion, this is basically the best day ever. Plus it lasts for weeks! I’m gonna cool off for a bit but I’ve got my eye on Young Mr. Lincoln and Scenes from a Marriage once I get a little more dough :)

love it! love it!

Lona, I’d recommend Night and Fog, The Red Balloon, and Paddle to the Sea.

Fredo

I think Lona and Loofrin should get a cut from BN for all this promoting they’ve been doing.

Or at the very least a raise.

Or a free scone from the cafe.

I bought the Cassavetes Box, the Ingmar Bergman Faith Trilogy, the Fanny & Alexander Box, Scenes from a Marriage, Alphaville, A Woman is a Woman, Masculin Feminin, and Night and Fog. Trying to catch up on my cheap Godard and Bergman box sets apparently…I only realized that after I got home. Day 1, and I’m all tapped out. BTW, Ingmar Bergman’s birthday today!

Any word on how long this is lasting? Can I wait until Thursday or should I not risk it and order online?

I take a week off from this place and this is what I miss! Shit!

I got my fill but I went back (scratching, sweating).. It was the other store, I had to check out the other store. But it’s not like I have a problem (clutching Criterions to chest)… You (pointing to Drew) you, have a problem! And the rest of you too! (shaking) I’m fine!
