Heads up!!!! 50% off Criterions

I don’t know… there are like a million things on their hulu channel I would want them to put out on blu before Eraserhead… although I will definitely buy basically any Eraserhead blu ray that comes out…

Maybe I should go ahead and sell my dvd while the price is still high.

I’m currently going through a spate of selling as well.

Ok, well my statement earlier that the only ones I have to have are the Brakhage and Frampton sets turned out to not hold up to a perusal through Criterion’s website. Now I also need:

Czech New Wave
Jean Pierre Gorin
Chantal Akerman
Bigger than Life
Playtime
Mystery Train
Branded to Kill
Tokyo Drifter

Definite:
Late Spring
Summer Interlude

Probable:
Samurai Trilogy
Certified Copy
Le Beau Serge
Dillinger is Dead
Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters

Possible:
Czech New Wave
Robert Downy Senior
Louis Malle Docs
Korda’s Private Lives
Rossellini War Trilogy
Under the Volcano
Jeanne Dielman
Harold and Maude
The Human Condition
The Element of Crime
Europa
Night on Earth
Salo
Gold Rush
Le Havre
39 Steps
The Fugitive Kind

Debating between:

Late Spring
3 Women
Belle De Jour
Shock Corridor
World on a Wire
Orpheus
Seven Samurai
Repulsion
The 400 Blows

The only ones that would not be blind buys are 3 Women, Shock Corridor, and The 400 Blows.

^ Of the ones that I’ve seen, Belle De Jour is a safe bet, especially since you have Exterminating Angel in your favorites! Repulsion is also really great (and you’d probably like it if you like slow-moving, surreal character studies of women like 3 Women), and a gorgeous blu ray. I really disliked World on a Wire though…

On blu-ray? Link?

Don’t think I’ve heard of Mondo-Vision as a distributor, do they have a pretty good track record?

No BD. They’ve only released 4 DVDs! All Zulawski. Great DVDs with lots of extras.

I remember that they mentioned they’d tried to release Eraserhead years ago and it fell through.

That’d be cool, though I already own the copy that Lynch self-distributed and I don’t really see how a criterion edition could improve upon it. However, I’d certainly be intrigued to see their attempt.

Double Post.

Ok I found out how we could get buy 2 get 1 AND 50% off Criteria two years ago. They started the Criterion sale too early when b2g1 was still in effect at stores, so you had to call your store and have them ship it to you to get both. So I guess it’s too late for that, since criteria are still full price online.

EDITED per below.

And from now on that’s what I’m saying.

that is incorrect, Drunken, the correct from of plural Criterion, which in this case is a noun, is Criterion.

I’m wondering does the sale actually start at midnight online or do they wait a little or do they wait until the actual stores open for the sale to commence. I was looking at a few of the DVDs and saw that they were staying at the same price.

50% off Criterion AND Buy 2 get a 3rd Free are both currently active. I just got 6 Blu-rays for $80. If they cancelled the order I’d understand, but I hope it goes through.

Just bought 12 blu rays for like 150 bucks… is this for real lol?

yeah that was nuts……6 blu rays for $85……crazy kind of popped on a few I was on and off about….but I guess I can return unopened ones to my local store if I change my mind :P

Looks like the deal crossover is over… I was in the process of selecting some blu-rays and the “buy two get one free” part disappeared :(

Oh well. Half off is still great, I’ll just have to not buy as much.

What did you guys grab?

I picked up an even split between Soderbergh and classic French films:

Gray’s Anatomy
And Everything is Going Fine
Traffic
The 400 Blows
Last Year at Marienbad
The Rules of the Game

Is anyone else still going in the store tomorrow? It would be a shame to not browse all those beautiful Criterions on the shelf.

ahh, sorry man….I kept thinking that was going to happen while I was ordering lol…Happened to me with something else like this before.

I just got some of the ones I mentioned above:

late spring
3 women
the 400 blows
belle de jour
orpheus
seven samurai

:D

double post….stop double posting damn it

Definitely:
David Lean Directs Noël Coward
Metropolitan

Maybe:
Close-Up
The Exterminating Angel
The Last Days of Disco
The Life and Death of Col. Blimp
The Lovers
The Night of the Hunter
Schizopolis
Vivre sa vie

I can probably only afford one, two at the most, from the maybe list. It’s gonna be a tough decision.

Sad to have missed the crossover, but at least I finally get to watch Late Spring. My definites are down, will probably spread the others out over the sale.

Ahhh dammit I missed the crossover! Oh well, I could barely stay up til midnight anyway, and it looks like the crossover wasn’t happening til about 1 or 1:30. Next time I’m gonna give one of y’all my phone number so you can wake me up!

But Loofrin, the actual word of criterion is a noun, too, and the plural of that is criteria… so why wouldn’t the plural of Criterion be Criteria?

Joks

how long does the sale go for?

kndy

Usually three weeks. Haven’t purchased anything…had things in my cart for the Buy 2 and get the third one free…but I took too long of deciding if I wanted to pay the extra $5 for Blu-ray for some titles. In the end, I decided that all I really want from this sale is the three colors and possibly two other titles.

But in the past few years of this sale, I have always utilized a coupon…and waiting to see if B/N will have the 10, 15 or 20% coupons available for this sale.

It’s interesting that reading on other threads from people who were surprised by last night’s overlap of the 50% off and the B2 get 1 free and wondering if their order will be canceled. It’s b&n’s screwup, so hopefully they honor those who did purchase last night.
