Help make The Auteurs totally awesome
well, to be fair, a lot of films have been added since i’ve been here- is it 3 months? And there are other ways of finding films by listings.
Of course we’re all eagerly waiting for more directors and films to be added (still lots of classics missing, don’t worry how auteurist their directors are, please, admin.)
An iPhone forum, rating, review, and profile app would be incredibly useful. We don’t have to stream because it would be a fairly low resolution and not really fair to so many of the directors to watch it on such a small screen, but access to make comments and add to our watchlist and communicate and network with other cinephiles on the go with location-based connectivity would be great (see the NIN application about tour dates and other “fans” etc in the area near you).
Mainly I would like a feature that makes it possible to just save which movies you’ve seen (in general, sure, the rating is probably kind of like that, but I would prefer it independent from the rating-feature because, personally, I don’t like rating without a single word and don’t think you can really differ movies in this one is 3 stars good, the other 5 or something).
I’m not sure if something like that is planned and I bet it got discussed like 100000 times but I felt like saying it again. :D
(some might say “what’s the use of that, what’s your brain for?!” or something but I’ve seen so many movies in my life and with titles in a lot of foreign languages that are quite hard to remember but with a library like that you could easily look up in your library if you’ve seen movie x and with the decribtion [or maybe even review] you probably remember the movie quite well again.)
A ‘real’ “what movies did I see?”-library would make recommendations based on what movies you like and others like possible as well (though I don’t like features like that either… I don’t know, I don’t think movies are really comparable in general [some are, others aren’t… a recommendation-engine wouldn’t be able to seperate] ).
and another thing: I would prefer if every movie would be listed under it’s original name, sometimes it is, sometimes it isn’t… I would prefer it consistently and I guess that the original-name is what most people would prefer.
another (quite obvious) thing I can think of right now: an improved search-function that makes it possible to search for movie-title, directors, genres (if there is a database for genres), etc.
Personally, I would like an easier way of re-arranging my favourite films and auteurs.
EDIT: It’s a real pain to remove then add films/auteurs to get them in the right order.

Half star ratings! Tiny little thing, I know. But sometimes a 3 and a half star rating is needed.
What happened to my watchlist? It’s gone; I had over 180 films listed on that.
And also a way of organizing ratings, like 5 star films first, then 4 star films and so on.
option for more posts or threads per page as so much becomes buried quickly.
Watchlists are back everybody, there was some database maintenance that went awry, but all the data is intact and is now restored to its former glory.
Have stickies been discussed?
When you enter a title for a new topic, before you’re allowed to create it the site should search the database to show you similar threads so you can choose to join one of them rather than create a redundant one.
Also, the Search box itself should be more prominent, and perhaps be labeled with a note about redundancy.
Has a “reputation” system been considered? I know that it seems petty, but I think a decent reputation system would encourage thoughtful posts. It’s also nice to get some feedback from users here so it doesn’t feel like you’re talking to yourself.
Josh, people just don’t care about the

I go on The Auteurs all the time on my phone, and I only have an enV. Its a bitch to scroll down but in the end its worth it.

@berjuan, i looked at that and first thought you meant a mobile, like a traveling bus or something. the auteurs mobile, kind of like the oscar meyer weiner hotdog mobile, traveling around the country exposing new people to the auteurs website. we could put justin, rich uncle skeleton, and drew on it and send it around to different cities so they could promote the website and teach people about good movies.
LOL, It can be on the shape of Stanley Kubrick head.
A choice to view our favourite films, ratings and watchlist in list view without the film stills next to them, like how we can view the film library in list view.
Otherwise, keep up the good work!
You probably already mentioned it but there should exist a quote button on the forum and each time a user was quoted received like a message to know who and where replied him.

Re: the search box, I would like the ability to perform limited searchs—search only forum posts, only films, only users, only directors, etc.
Also, a database to catalog personal collections would be nice.

Yes, please. It’s impossible to use the FORUM from my phone. There is a sea of gray between every post. It’s impossible to navigate.
I doubt this is plausible, but I would like to see the site grow beyond Criterion. I mean, Facets, Kino and the like are very wonderful companies, indeed, each with varying degrees of individual promise…I guess it would be nice to see them in the loop. Like a big community watering hole.
just a thought…if they would like to help out that would be nice.

I haven’t read through all these pages, so I’m sure a number of these have been mentioned. I think that database of favorite directors needs to grow. There are people I can’t add because the site won’t recognize them like Enzo Castellari. I know that there would be debate over whether such a person were an auteur, but I think that needs to be a debate amongst the members not the administration.
Also, you should be able to rate the films on the director pages. Please study the netflix design. They’ve done a lot of things right. Also, there should be a variety of films when I click films. Instead I get the same alphabetical list starting on 2001 each time. I’ve already rated those.
Anyway, I’m sure you’ll figure it out even though everything seems pretty much the same as when I signed up five months ago.
