I would appreciate having a half stars rating system and also for it to show how many votes the ratings are based on.
I agree with the half-star rating system.
Half a star means the world between a 3-star film and a 4-star film.
It would also be rocking if users (maybe only some) could add films through a form with fields to fill up, a la LivingSocial, instead of us sending you guys emails with our additions, or having countless board topics stating what films you’re missing.
Then a crap ton of them would be entered with false information, typos, wonky stills, etc.
the form doesn’t necessarily post them live, it sends the information to staff at theauteurs who then review the entries, click on approve and publishes if they contain the correct info. If the entry is rubbish, then just discard it. If the information is okay, but there are fields for improvement, there should always be an ‘edit’ button.
Caramel apples on the first Monday of every month for all forum members would be nice.
That’s actually not a bad idea (as long as there are people around to review the entries).
Caramel apples aren’t a bad idea either.
member points (that add up so we can watch films) for data entry =D
**useful data entry
Add more films!
Please give me the option of adding Rod Serling to my “Favourite Auteurs”!
How about letting add actors on lists? You know, like making a Top10 Directors, but also letting you make a list of Top10 Actors?
Avatars would be nice. Film people recognize the power of the image as much as anyone.
We can easily remember and recognize a name but to have an image to go along with that would help so much. Avatars please!
Sorry is this is not the place to request this, but I want to request a specific film to be added to The Auteurs. That film is He Got Game.
I still think having an ‘ignore user’ button would be invaluable.
I would rather have a make-me-invisible-to-this-person button
Why is the forum’s RSS feed option gone? :(
My hide button on my newsfeed can’t really be seen unless I hover my cursor over it. The cursor becomes a hand when I’m over it.
But, I think I like these new improvements.
Keep up the good work!
Okay, so I don’t know if someone has brought this up already (it is quite likely), but I do not really understand the use of becoming a fan of either an actor or a screenwriter or a DP if it’s not displayed anywhere. The only way someone is going to remember who he became a fan of is if he goes through all those pages again and realizes that he already is a fan. I think it would be cool if, on the profile pages, it listed every person that he is a fan of. Now, this doesn’t have to be like the “Favorite Auteurs” list, because it would probably end up taking way to much space, so maybe it could just show the first few, and then have a separate page where ti shows the others (after clicking “see all”).
Also, I think it would be cool to do the same for lists. I know that I personally posted quite a bit of comments on the lists that I became fans of, but I can never remember which ones they were, and so if someone commented, it’s not like I’d know (unless I went searching, which is a pain in the arse). So, yes, like the actors, DPs, etc., I propose that you add a list of of lists that the individual has become a fan of.
I hope this isn’t too much, or anything! I just think it’d be more convenient for people.
Savvy
Once people start to rate over 30 films with the star rating, it is difficult for an outside user to navigate through a person’s profile (possibly one they believe is a trustworthy reviewer or just has rating a lot of movies). It would be nice to have a feature to sort ratings by stars and by date. So if you want to see the movies that a person thought highly of, they could look at those first instead of a long list that has no order except that it was recently reviewed. Just a thought, as people start to view other profiles to get recommendations to watch a movie.
It is exciting to see new features on this great site!

I would like to see the greatly underrated Denver Film Festival represented in the list of film festivals.
I just noticed that you can become a fan of an actor now, but is there a way to access a list of people you’re a fan of (like the auteurs one shows up on your profile)?
After clicking on the movies you would like to watch, the list may be extensive, it would be really nice to see when going through them whether they are playing on the auteurs. This could just be in text next to the image. Sometimes I can’t remember whether someone told me to see a movie and I added it or if the Auteurs was playing it and wanted to catch it online.

What Zachary and Joshua said.
It’s hard to remember who I’ve already become a fan of…
About the lists, an e-mail shouldn’t be sent if you comment on your own list. However, an e-mail should be sent to the list-starter if somebody becomes a fan of of one of their lists.
And lists for our favourite cast and crew just like for our favourite auteurs, and our favourite lists, thank you.
Being able to respond to the main topic without having to go to the last page would be greatly appreciated. And a quote feature.
I may be repeating what others have said, but here is a list of things on my Auteurs Improvement Wishlist:
Ability to re-arrange movies in our lists. For example, drag and drop movies around so that it is in the order that we want
Ability to re-arrange order of our auteur’s list.
Ability to un-rate a film (not just change a film’s rating) by going to that film’s page. The current way of doing it requires going to my own ratings page, finding the movie, and removing it. But I have hundreds of movies rated, for me to find the movie I want to un-rate would take a long time. It would be much easier for me to go to search, type in the name of the movie, and click “clear my rating” or something.
In the “Forum” section of our profile… I like that you’re listing out all the topics we’ve posted in, but an improvement would be to have the # of unread comments after it. For instance “BEST MOVIES EVER (4 new)” or something, so I know when to go look. I know there is a notification option, but I hate e-mail notifications.
Ability to add your own movies. For instance, go to a Auteur’s page. If the movie doesn’t exist, click on a new button “Add Movie”. Then it will show you a form for entering the movie info, uploading a screenshot, etc. If you guys are control freaks, you can even have a “review process” before making all submissions live. So that it would be PENDING… then you could go and approve them, making sure they are not bogus entries.
Similar process for entering new directors, actors, whatnot.
Some kind of optional notification/subscription thing for lists. When someone replies to me in someone’s personal list, i don’t think it notifies me currently. But maybe there is an option for this in the settings that I’ve overlooked. Ideally, I’d like to be able to subscribe to updates/changes/replies to certain lists that i’m a fan of, but not to others.
I don’t really understand the difference between writing a “review” for a movie and just writing something on a movie’s wall. Maybe you can beef up the reviews functionality so it can be more tempting to write them. Maybe a “LIKE” or “DISLIKE” function that people can click on your review, and also maybe people can write comments in response to your review. Then when you go to a movie page you can “sort reviews by:” most comments, most number of likes, most number of dislikes, etc.
I’ll have more I’m sure. Thanks for listening!
Jimmy, the first one can be done by dragging the numbers of the items when editing the list.
One more thing:
Can we make the “Favorite Films” section of our profile into one of those scrollable things… sort of like the widget at the bottom of the amazon page… or the widgets on this page http://digitalbooks.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/ (look at the iPod Compatible Audiobooks, those covers underneath there, and the little arrow where you can go right and left)
Also, to cut down on your workload: the “submission form” for new films or directors to add would have some AJAX shit that would make it pop up and say “this movie has already been requested and is pending approval” if it’s a movie that has already been submitted. That way, you won’t get 29382393 requests to add DUST IN THE WIND (which you need to add by the way… wink-wink, haha). The message would pop up as they are typing in the name of the movie. And to account for different ways of spelling a movie, perhaps you can have a field where they enter the IMDB url of the movie too, so that would be the unique identifier of any new movies.
LAW: Ooh! Thanks for that advice! I’ll try it now.
ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE
YeS! That would be great Ilan!
