I love the format of the site. These are just some ideas.
I understand legal and financial restrictions for this one, but the ability to select a movie and apply it to the netflix cue.
Streaming to internet connected blu-ray players, Xbox, PS3, roku, etc…
A movie “wish list” for holiday shopping.
Having a link next to the movies that contain the actual preview for the movie. So you can get a taste for the film and have it more resemble a theatrical experience.
I don’t like the “Following” feature, I feel like I’m being stalked.
More titles and directors in the database. More pictures to choose as profile image.
:)
It may be the poster’s fault with double, triple and even quadruple posts, but i wonder why it happens so often here. I don’t like the term “following” instead of friend either
I’d like to see a more visual friendly search function.
Include a few educational documentary films on film making in the library such as:
Vision of Light: the Art of Cinematography (1992) dir. Arnold Glassman, Todd McCarthy, and Stuart Samuels
Cinematographer Style (2006) dir. Jon Fauer (http://www.cinematographerstyle.com/downloads/CStyle_small.mov)
No Subtitles Necessary: Laszlo and Vilmos (2008) dir. James Chressanthis, 105 minutes
I’d like to be able to search for users who have favorite auteurs in common with me just by clicking their names on my profile and to be able to edit/delete a post I make anywhere at any time and not just for an hour or so after I’ve posted it would be nice.
P.S. Love the site! So glad I joined.
Love this site, and I apologize for repeating anything that’s already been said (I didn’t fully peruse all 7 pages here).
I definitely agree with making it easier to find friends. Perhaps some sort of affinity list that automatically shows you what users have a list of favorite films or auteurs similar to yours.
I love that new movies are always being added to the library but it would be nice to know when and what gets added instead of having to page through the entire library every so-often to look for new titles.
And it might be cool if movie pages had links to articles or essays on that specific film, perhaps to criterion and other sources, perhaps users could add or suggest specific links.
Thats all I got. Thanks for having this site at all!!
I would like to see the number of posts each people have, and maybe an avatar option
Avatars are stupid. They just bring a new level of falsehood to the site. Just draw yourself or get a portrait and upload it.
Hi guys. Thanks for more feedback! We’ll be re-vamping the friends-finding function soon!
I like that I have followers now (as opposed to friends), makes me feel like a prophet, a really unknowledgeable film prophet.
Glad to hear that Dax :) Lead us onward!
This is the best website period, I;d be happy with any or no changes.
Just a suggestion re the ‘followers’ name. It doesn’t bother me – maybe I am secretly after ‘followers’ too, like Col. Dax – but perhaps the term ‘fan’ could be substituted for ‘friend’ or ‘follower’. We are, after all, a film forum, and fan would be how most of us would describe our love for a particular film or director. We could also be ‘fans’ of certain posters on site. In any case, I am happy with anything the auteurs decide.
I am not a big fan of the new “tweet this film” option, but I assume that’s because I’m behind the times and just bitter that this new technology is becoming so big right after I finally got good at texting.
As far as the forum goes, I think it would be good to have avatars. It makes it easier to remember who’s who and adds a little individuality to the members.
Is there a way to post images in your posts?
I do not want avatars. It should be quite possible to remember a name of an author. Besides you can already add a picture on your profile page. But it’s easy to post images in the forum: Just add an exclamation mark right before and after the image-url.
If it is possible, it would be nice to edit a post for an unlimited time.
this reverse posting update with the first post at the bottom is a little awkward, becomes a little difficult to follow whats going on…
anybody agree ??
Yes, andy… I do agree.
It’s very awkward.
Yes, I agree it’s confusing. I almost wrote an angry email asking why a recent post of mine was deleted. Thank goodness I noticed this change before I did. Damn Irish temper!
guys, sorry, the forum posting order was a bug that crept in due to some optimizations we made. It was never intended to be that way.
saved us Gabe…
I have a hard time finding anything wrong with the site. I’m just so happy to finally have an awesome forum to enjoy/discuss these films that isn’t all tacky or buggy. Great job! I used to think I was the only human being on earth who anxiously hunted and dreamed about CC films. Whew…I’m not alone after all. I knew you guys were out there :-)
It would be cool if when you searched for friends, it gave a percentage match of your interests in film. For example, if another user has 80% of the same movies favorited as you it would be cool to see that.
Ryan—-you read our minds. We will be working on something similar in the future. Thanks for the suggestion!
Ooooohhhh! Good one Ryan! That would be really interesting to see! I can’t wait :-)
Actually, the reverse posting on our profile page, with our oldest threads at the beginning when you see all, instead of the end, has made me realize that my earlier threads were my best and that we had some damn good topics being discussed way back when. It’s like seeing a picture of yourself from a few years back when you looked younger and smarter. Maybe it is a bit scary for those of us that have been on the site for awhile…That is why I am being more circumspect before posting now. I personally am glad my recent ones are now way at the back.
Perhaps use your authority to combine a surplus of multiple threads dedicated to the same topic into one massive thread, possibly even a sticky, always being at the top of the front page for a certain period of time… specifically in regard to the Benjamin Button lunacy going on around here, and any future similar cases.
Or, simply create a banner on top of the front page that says, “Search before posting new topics!”

I second Dave MCDougall’s favoriting thread suggestion and also repeat Jason’s question.
