Kim—again, you read our minds. That’s something we’re working on! Thanks for the comment.

Include “the loneliness of the long distance runner”
much better than half of the other films here…
a little request…
Is it possible to move the page “counter” from the bottom to the top of the page, or create another counter on the top too? It’s a bit uncomfortable to go down every time, then the page loads from the top again, then go down… especially for those who often read the forum.
This is really just a minor quibble here, but I wonder if it would be possible to add the option to select ‘No Image’ in ‘My Style/Choose Your Image’? Because once you select a image there’s no darn way to get rid of it (the only option is to change it).
I was checking films for my favourite films list and I can’t find The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) and On The Waterfront (1954).
How come?
At one time, we had a thumbs up, thumbs down option on all individaul postings. This was removed by popular assent (and no, it won’t be coming back just so you can give the thumbs down to someone – however much you would like to), but it was the way a certain regal air was added to posters who consistently got thumbs up. On the home page, several illustrious ‘cinephiles’ are given – these have the coveted ‘cinephile’ added to their names because of peer recognition. Has the auteurs thought of revivng some sort of formula to allow for a similar mechanism, so that some future ‘cinephiles’ can emerge? Sure, it smacks of the gold star in grade school, but that was pretty effective, as I recall, in getting kids to work extra hard just to get that damn recognition.
Yes, either revamp the “cinephile” ranking system, or get rid of the classification entirely.
Or just take all of the top 50 users who have been on the Most Passionate Cinephiles list for months and give them the classification. This will appease my own vanity, being #26.
As Bob says above, I’m really nothing more than a child who wants his gold star.
Brandon, I like what you said…I am at #41
OK Brandon & Filmy Andy, I agree (#49) – it’s called getting an ‘A’ for effort (ie, over-posting). Let’s give those 50 their gold star and move on. (If you ain’t on that list – try again next time. Your consolation silver star can be picked up at the exit).
I guess options to change the background. Grey’s not my favourite colour…
films to consider adding..
classics- most of these should be on the list, some I threw in there just for fun.

A Prairie Home Companion – Robert Altman
The History Boys – Nicholas Hytner

Three good documentaries..
March of the Penguins – Luc Jacquet

Mad Hot Ballroom – Marilyn Agrelo
I’m new to the site and find it fascinating. Someone mentioned feeding an addiction, I see how. How does one become a passionate cinephile?
Hi guys,
To address your thoughts and concerns about the cinephile system, the rankings are frozen and the methods of achieving a ranking have been removed until we entirely re-design and re-conceptualize the reputation system (as it is called) to be much more dynamic, rewarding, and exciting. So please have a bit of patience…it will pay off!
To address concern about some of the movies I recommended— only for the simple fact to go along with the recently added; The Dark Knight, Little Miss Sunshine, 8 Mile, I gave all 2 stars (8 Mile 1- and it’s not because I have anything against Eminem either), Grindhouse – another 1 star.. so if we’re going to be adding Hollywood, Mystic River is not the worst pick, I actually liked it very much— but that’s for another topic.
Sorry I haven’t read all the posts so don’t know if this has come up but is it possible to replicate the prev |1|2|3|4|5| etc bar at the top of the page so that if you’ve already all the posts then you can scan forward quickly?
Heyyy, what happened to the randomization of favorite films and ratings shown on user profiles? I quite liked that.
I’ve just signed up and I’d like to know the best way to link up on here with other members.
How was the Most Passionate Cinephiles list put together?
…i was wondering about them penguins
Well, i’m delighted that many of my favourite films- including quite surprisingly Pakeezah and Tales of the Taira Clan (ahead of some more famous ones missing) have now been added to the library. People here may find it worth keeping an eye open for new additions.
Interesting, since the directors for my profile reversed (!), I now have Tati on top and Tarkovsky on the bottom. It wounds my snobbish pride. Well, Jacques and Andrei, that’s life in the world of cinematic reputations. One day you’re on top, next day on the bottom – c’est la vie. A bit ironic, and I am too lazy to put them back in order by deleting/adding. I’ll leave it until it becomes easier. Also, my most recent film reviews and ratings on the profile were well-hidden at the back for a reason – so that I didn’t have to take the flak. Interesting how these ‘improvements’ don’t always suit one. I may go anonymous, now, especially if this whole process is Irreversible!
Posting this here, as that damn penguin thread is just getting too cute!
Can we have our favourite auteurs listing on our profiles back the right way up, favourites at the top, please- i had to redo them to put this right. Otherwise it immediately gives a false impression.
Kenji, at least you have only 11 directors. I’m waaay too lazy to put mine in ‘correct’ order.
Thumbs up on the new layout, now I can obsess over my followers and fall into fits of bitter depression when I lose any.
Already a great site. Thank you. Some ideas for improvement.
An iphone application so we can stream films on phone (sorry).
Wii compatibility would be cool – but I know you’ve been looking into this already and it’s a bit tricky.
Ability to add own film directors to profile page etc – why is Bruce Macdonald (Roadkill, Highway 61, Dance Me Outside) not there?
More films in the projection booth for the UK please (I know these are coming and you’re working on this though).
Some way of being more creative on profile page – just for starters, why can’t we add our own film stills instead of generic ones?
Lastly, I hope the site will honor people’s current subscription rate (in the UK, £12) to the unlimited monthly film membership. I have been using emusic for a couple of years and despite putting their subscription fees up every now and again, they never increase the fees for existing members – pretty good I think.
Oliver, Kenji, Bob Many of your suggestions and concerns are already being developed/addressed. Bear with us > we know, we are listening, and we’re working as hard as we can to make this site excellent. There are many, many things in the pipeline.
And Grey Daisies… : )
This site is certiainly improving, what with all the additions to the film library. Grey Daisies; i reduced the number of my favourite auteurs because of having to invert the order (i’m not immune to laziness either, well it’s about motivation, i’m thinking of adding more and redoing again). I would like to be able to add Hiroshi Shimizu and Otar Iosseliani.

I wonder if there is a way to follow/unfollow certain threads without contributing to them. This would allow us to keep up with the development of certain discussions that are interesting and informative while forming an opinion of our own.
