This remains my favorite Iggy album ever (Stooges included) by a long shot and one of my favorite albums of all time and one of my favorite Bowie albums to boot.

Don’t listen to “Mass Production”!!!!!!!!!!!
well, i’m still here.
Glad you didn’t do a full recreation of Ian Curtis’s final night.
What did you think of Control?
I thought Control was brilliant, it did a fairly accurate depiction of his life, but after getting into the book I can see how some things could have been fabricated. Ian was more of a villain than I’d like to believe. I love him and the film nonetheless!
And what did you think of that cheap suicide scene in 24 Hour Party People? I still can’t understand why they did it that way? There were a chicken, laughing voices and Ian’s swinging legs, right? It was the worst suicide scene I have seen. And the sloppiest.
Kaan: I wonder if that scene was designed to convey cheapness and sloppiness.
It was certainly meant to be incredibly black-heartedly comic, and it knowingly sacrifices any respect for Curtis’ character to express the movie’s attitude about the cheapness of life. I personally didn’t like the flick because of this very tone throughout, but I can’t deny it was intentionally dismissive of the idea that human life has some inherent value.
Kaan- the chicken part was from stroszek, the last movie ian watched before he killed himself. incidentally, stroszek kills himself at the end of the movie
That’s a compelling argument, Ben. You may be spot on.
But I was suggesting that perhaps the scene was displaying a contempt for suicide, not life itself, and that it was attempting to show disrespect for what might fairly be called a selfish act, considering Curtis’ responsibilities to his child and her mother.
I understand that Curtis was dealing with a serious medical condition, but I am not sure that he didn’t allow his circumstances to lead to an ugly indulgence in self-absorption at times.
Not judging; just describing. I wasn’t there, so perhaps even a description is unfair as well.
But in any event, JD’s music and Curtis’ lyrics certainly influenced my young years.
