because they were never nominated before.
then they forgot thousands more
Because the show is a big infomercial
they should start a best horror category :O(
It was pretty much an insult. “Here’s your little montage, since you’ll never win a real award.” Then to rub the salt in, they have the Twilight kids do the intro.
Possible because they wanted to draw in teens who easily frequent these movies.
Tarantino nodded at the end like “Yeah, I’ve seen all those”. The geek.
@Flock of Smeagols – Ha ha, love the name! Are you related to Jonathan Livingston Smeagol? Is he in your flock?
The Academy Awards should be filed under “horror”
ha ha i never saw the tarantino reaction :O)
Sucks that the Shining didnt get any nominations in 1980
@ Soybean no, but thanks!
If they started best horror, then they would have to make a separate category for each genre of movie. Someone just needs to bother to make quality horror movies… same with comedy in my opinion. I think both those genre could possibly be up to Academy standards if they were made properly.
Then again… I really don’t like the academy awards to much.
paranormal activity and the hangover were part of the ceremony and not nominated
I was more talking about actual nominations, specifically in the realm of best picture. Notice, part of why they mentioned horror at the awards to begin with was because no horror films had been nominated since The Exorcist.
maybe the exorcist cursed the academy :O(
“Silence of the Lambs”. And it won.
or the academy is cursed and they need an exorcist :O)
I used a Ouija board to predict tonight’s winners. I also just urinated on my carpet.
@ Jardun
There are great horror films out there – some better known than others:
Some that immediately spring to mind are:
The Exorcist
The Shining
Shutter (Original)
Kairo
Ju-On
Alien
Kwaidan
REC
Martyrs
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Devil’s Backbone
Dead Alive
Evil Dead 1 & 2
Shaun Of The Dead
Night Of The Living Dead
Dawn Of The Dead
Day Of The Dead
The Sixth Sense
The Thing
Halloween
Well, at least I think those movies are all great.
Still, I agree that there has never really been a great Horror movie director, and there aren’t a huge number of great horror movies out there. I struggle to think of any that are worth watching other than the above mentioned ones.
I have seen almost all of those, and 100% agree that they are great. Again… I was really referring more to modern times. Those are all classics, and modern classics even, but not much made NOW is up to academy standards. That said, The Shining, and Shaun of the Dead are 2 of my favorite movies lol.
You know what though, fuck academy standards really.
@ TheLadyAssassin: best comment ever =)
Oh, and of course Nosferatu, Herzog’s & Murnau’s and also Dreyer’s Vampyr
In the montage of good Horror films was an extremely brief clip of Twilight. An atrocity.
@JAEGER INKMAN Also, what’s wrong with showing your cinematic dick size in a room of baby boys? If I was in attendance and the cam looked at me, you’d see a similar reaction. Seen all except 1.
the very fact that they had the twilight cast members to present the terrible montage was just a slap on the face for an avid horror fan like myself.
I didn’t realize Edward Scissorhands and The Sixth Sense were horror films.
Freddy will be pissed.
Edward Scissorhands & The Sixth Sense?! How about the Twilight atrocity =) & in the same vein as The Shining! Shudder worthy, if you ask me
Heeeeeeeere’s Edward
It doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, does it?
I’ve seen better tributes to horror on youtube. I was excited when I heard they were going to have a tribute the horribly dissapointed when they showed Twilight: New Moon in the montage, which seems to be the general consensus of this thread. There wasn’t a real amount of variety in the montage either, but yet again i’m just saying stuff thats already been said before.
heres a montage they could have used:

why was there a dedication of horror films that were never nominated before?
