House

Has anybody gotten a chance to see this? I just caught it at IFC.

I haven’t seen a film so joyful, stylish, inventive and playful in quite some time. Calling it a horror movie seems so limiting. It plays like a live action manga. But it really is horror and it shows you the possibilities of any movie, but genre movies in particular.

Hope you all get a chance to catch this.

I was going to catch that while I was in NY, but didn’t get a chance to. Maybe it’ll have a run in LA, if not, I can always find it elsewhere.

Oh THAT House. Yeah I was thinking the ‘86 “horror” film (Steve Miner) as well. And then I was thinking the TV show, and then I remembered that the protagonist of ’86’s House (William Katt) was in an episode of House (the TV series – season 2 maybe, the episode with the father and son “miracle healing” religious duo) and everyone thought I was insane when I called it right at the beginning, but yeah, let’s just say I made a lot of money that night.

Yeah. I should have clarified. After I saw House (Hausu) I was thinkning about that ’86 House with a friend at work. I remembered the countless times I caught bits of it on SciFi when I was a kid.

TMO – a geeky question, but did IFC show the restoration digitally (project digitally) or was it shown on film?

Hey guys.

@Daniel: like Glemaud said, it’s a 35mm print. Apparently, they unearthed some print that had never been shown.

I never seen such a beautiful print for such a slap-shod, ramshackle, gorgeously artificial looking movie.

@Adam: how was the Masters DVD, any cool special features?

@Dimitris: what did you think of it?

Criterion is releasing “Hausu” later this year.

IFC showed it digitally the first day because the print didn’t show up, but it’s on 35mm now. Think I might catch it tomorrow.
