I own roughly 30 DVDs. I try to be really selective about what I purchase (exceptions being gifts), and limiting to things that have really had a (usually) profound effect on me.
I don’t know what’s worse: my DVDs, or all these forsaken VHS tapes.
I’m just glad someone on Craigslist took my LD’s off my hands.

I have over 300 dvds, and about 40 are Criterion. I want to start weeding stuff out, but then I keep thinking I’ll want to watch them again some day. You just never know if you’re going to be in the mood for The 400 Blows or for Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.

200 + 40 criterion
At the moment I’m sitting on a little over 1300 DVDs (same as Adam… count boxsets and TV series as one no matter how many discs). No Blu-Rays (I simply cannot afford to re-purchase that many and Blu-Ray still seems to be in it’s infancy with limited availability of titles in this town). 29 Criterions at the moment (really hard to come by in this town and the exchange rate is no longer good for me to buy online).
About 320 Criterions, (spine nos., really) and 300 to 400 non-Criterions, (counting TV boxes as one each). I consider it a library rather than a collection—although I’m seriously considering whether it should continue as one of the circulating variety.
I do believe in the Zen principle, “You can judge the wealth of a man by what he can afford to live without”. For this reason, I avoid buying too much more for fear of suffering from both fiscal and metaphysical bankruptcy. Likewise Blu-rays. (The difference is noticable, but not enough for me to warrant the investment.)
I own no Tom Hanks movies.

I have about 120 DVDs with a limited collection of Criterion, reserved for the favorite and the cheap. I wish my parents would get me Criterion for gifts, but they don’t like shopping online. Boo. I think that Seven Samurai is so good a film it should count as more than one. Especially the most recent three disc-set. I just love looking at the box. It’s beautiful.
Dangit, I own Road to Perdition with Tom Hanks. Hey it was a good film, wonder when it’s going to be on Criterion.

I have around 70.
I have just at 400 and since it seems to matter 96 Criterion’s. I have gotten rid of a lot. Material possessions don’t mean much to me at this point in my life. I mostly rent from netflix instead of buying. I’m probably only going to buy my absolute favorites from now on. You spend so much time slaving away to get the huge collection you don’t even have time to enjoy them, if you try to get every film you enjoy. I own like 6 Blu rays sometimes they are the same price as the dvd and some , but not many are worth the upgrade. A lot depends on how much I like the movie.
I count each of my TV box sets, which I own a lot of, as one, and included them in my previous estimate of 200.
I own 0, count ’em, 0 Criterions. They are too expensive for my jobless bones. I just rent them all the time.
I’m not entirely sure there are 100 Criterion DVDs I even want to own. I love Criterion and all, though. I guess I’m not as much of a completist as I used to be. Or maybe I’m just cheap or something.
I’d have around 300 Criterions, and maybe 4000 DVD’s….. and about 1000 VHS (remember them!)……. and there are films I’ve taped from TV that I can’t get on DVD anywhere yet. I try to watch a film each night… at the rate I acquire them I currently need to live to be 120 years old to get to watch them all :) oh dear, pass the yogurt.
Shotzi, I completely agree with you. When I first saw the post i was thinking “Are there even 100 criterion’s I would want to own?” They’re mostly all worth a watch, but how many do you really want to see eighty times? I think a big collection does make up for the lack of penis size though.

Andrew, that’s something else!!! My life would go down the drain if I owned all those films. You must have great self control! I hardly leave the house at all with the little bit of dvds I own! Wow!
About 200 DVDs and Blu-Rays, including a few TV shows and a couple of anime. About 1/3 are foreign language, and about 25 are Criterion.
Wow – I wish some of you with large collections lived in my neighbourhood. I am going to point this out to my wife who is always urging me to buy less – there are collectors out there. Because most of my disposal income has been disposed of already, or gone into an overly large cd collection, I only have a pitiful 50 dvds (and about 20 new videos) – about 5 or so Criterions. Everything from Disney animated, to BBC series, to Babe, to Gone with the Wind, to Solaris & Ivan’s Childhood. But, I guess though small, my collection is as eclectic and iconoclastic as any other. But is is small, if size does matter. Whaaa – I want some more! Now for what I have seen…
