@Drew
Usually (with the B&N I work for at least) they want you to be 18, however, I was hired when I was 17… I think it’s becoming more common now to be hired there at 16. Although, some may have been 16 all along. Not entirely certain.
Employee discount for books is 30 percent, CDs/DVDs is 20 percent, but every once in awhile there will be a few weeks where they’ll throw an extra 10 percent onto each.
…and although this has nothing to do with being an employee, they are doing the buy 2 DVDs get the 3rd free thing right now. Kill me. I’m so weak.
Not very many. I’ve only really started trying to build it up recently. Trying to buy 2 or 3 a week whenever I can find a cheap deal/ Recently got the Criterion release of Umberto D for $12, the Criterion Ratcatcher for $16, and Far From Heaven for $4. Also found a Scorcese boxset (Boxcar Bertha, New York, New York, The Last Waltz, Raging Bull) for $20, and a 10 film horror set (Including the Cabinet of Dr. Calagari!) for $10. Thinking of picking them both up.
About 600 (40 or so Criterion) and maybe 100 t.v. shows, but I stopped buying t.v. shows so I could buy more Criterions.
I picked up a used copy of Masked and Anonymous today to make 693. About 35 are Criterion.
Just short of 6" erect, not counting testicles, and roughly an inch and a half circumference, I think.

But seriously though, I had track of all that stuff until DVDspot went down. I’ve been meaning to upload it all onto DVD Aficionado, but just haven’t had the energy or interest. I think at current count I have something like 700+ films spread out over just short of 300 DVDs, collections, and boxed sets.

I covered the dick joke on the first page, yo.
Still a young grasshopper….about 90.
Whats the point of having tones of DVD’s, do you really watch them enough to justify buying them, I’d say you’d have to watch a movie so much that renting them would be more expensive. Just like in everything it’s not size that counts its the quality!
30+ DVD, 19 blurays
Mine is smaller. Just had to sell a bunch to pay car insurance.
I think I’m up to about 950 now, maybe 1000.
I have over 2000 original DVDs in my collection. I never rent. If a movie turns out to be awful, or is something I don’t want in my collection, I sell it at a used DVD store.
Also have around 300 laserdiscs, and over 5,000 original VHS cassettes (all bought pre DVD), that I no longer watch.
I have probably around 4,000-5,000 DVD’s, close to 400 Blu-rays, only around 50 DVD’s and trashing a lot of VHS. I have a storage filled with VHS and I tried to play some of them but the tracking seems off or the video tape has degraded over long periods of heat and cold during the seasons.
I used to sell or trade but when things started to become like 10 cents or 50 cents per DVD, I figured screw it….I’ll just keep them. But the difficulty was more or less storing them. My wife had enough of my home looking like a video rental store (which she was right) and so I had to invest in binders to house them.
194 DVD’s, 1 Bluray
Somewhere around 1,500 (about 200+ Criterions, including 20 OOPs).
Just started getting serious about my DVD’s so 27 DVD’s. 1 Criterion.
I’ve worked in six video stores in various cities for many years now (Chicago, two exceptional ones in Los Angeles and one in Boston) – and since I’m an absolute cheapskate I’ve never gone out of my way to buy anything. Up until a year ago I had maybe 20. Then some idiotic compulsion took over and, in past year, I’ve expanded my collection to 500+… and growing steadily. Way too many Criterions, but what can I say? These sales have been super duper opportunities.
Also I’ve downloaded one or two things.
Oops I meant around 50 LD’s but yeah… I have way too many Blu-rays and DVD’s…
I have to work on my DVD collection. Most of my films are on VHS, I do own about 20 DVDS and 3 criteron collection.
Just under 300
I stopped counting about a year ago, but it’s somewhere around 1,000.
Around 300. about 15-25 are Criterion.
2500 DVD, 5,000 VHS
i only have maybe 30. 3 of them are blu ray. only 1 criterion (Brazil).
but i’m starting to work on a blu ray library. I have Blade Runner, Inglourious Basterds and Watchmen. Just bought There Will Be Blood, Boogie Nights, Magnolia and Broken Embraces. I’m about to sell my Kubrick dvd box set and re-buy them all in blu ray. and I pre-ordered the blu ray criterion of mystery train. I’ll probably limit to a couple blu ray’s a paycheck so I don’t get out of hand.
Shakti, that is some collection. But how do you know what is on the recordable VHS tapes? They don’t seem to have any labels.

My Movie Collector count is at 5199. But I also have at least 400 transferred to disc from TCM. I have a large basement with my entire collection shelved for display. It’s sheer lunacy but that’s the agony and ecstacy of obsession.
