Hausu is great, but it’s those types of films (should we call them “horror parody” or “comedic horror” or “damnably dark comedy”?) that are often misunderstood because they rely on the audience’s awareness of the genre … and often, audiences are pretty damn unobservant let alone knowledgable.
I thought it was a good horror film, William Katt was oka…. Oh, wait, you’re talking about a different House.
I dont think you really need to be aware of anything to enjoy Hausu (House). Its fun just seeing what random scene is coming next. I own the Masters of Cinema version and i’ve watched it at least 5 times now, and it gets better every time.
But then again, there are those who think Monty Python’s Quest for the Holy Grail is useless.
@Uli: Heh, I LOVED that version of House when I was just a lad. I rewatched it a couple years ago and was like, “Shit, I had NO sensibility back then!” Still amusing though.
Seeing Hausu was the most fun I’ve had in the theater in a long time. It was with a great crowd that was really into it and we laughed and giggled all the way through it. Thinking about it shortly after, though, I wondered if I would have enjoyed it nearly as much had I seen it alone on a small screen. I can imagine many people who do see it alone on a television or, worse yet, computer screen could just sit there, shake their heads, and say, “What the…?”
I think Hausu defies being labeled. It’s just pure fun, and I’m so glad I got to see it in an environment that made the most of it.

This is a thread not only asking how anyone can NOT enjoy Hausu. It is also asking what films you are shocked there are people that don’t like it.
Like Hausu, how can anyone not like it?
