netflix does not have it; do i pretty much have to wait indefinitely or is another way to see it somehow

Santropez

Look it up in www.stagevu.com if you’re ok with it.

I saw it on Netflix in Nov., but it doesn’t seem to be there anymore.

Kelvane

i noticed that too. it was in my queue for a bit, and I hadn’t yet watched it, and now, damn, it’s gone.

Charlesdegaulle

on stagevu, is the title shot meant to be shaky, or is someone filming a screening of it

Will C

It’s meant to be shaky. He does the same thing in Dancer in the Dark.

I have a VHS you can borrow whenever I get back up to New Hampshire….

deckard croix

Torrent.

Charlesdegaulle

Thank you McBean, but the fact that it’s a region 2 DVD may be a problem

Ben Simington

Maybe you can use VLC with an appropriate region-free drive to watch it.

Matt Parks

The R1 disc should be easy enough to find used if you’re willing to go that route. Looks like it can be had for around $18 total @ Amazon.

^ The Region 1 R-Rated Version is missing explicit shots cut to obtain the R rating.

To put it simply if you’ve seen a Region 1 Breaking the Waves you have not seen von Trier’s original cut.

Joks

^^^How much longer is Von Trier’s cut then?

I’m surprised there is even a thread about this. Even my local Video Ezy(the Australian equivalent of Blockbuster) has a copy :-)

good luck.

You can watch the movie or down six AMBIEN… the end result will be the same.

From Imdb.

The director’s cut of the film, featuring explicit shots removed from the U.S. version for ratings purposes, is available on Criterion laserdisc.

Normal Run Time- 159 minutes

Director’s Cut-153 Minutes

Matt Parks

Yeah, it’s been speculated on that Breaking the Waves was going to turn up on Criterion again. Seems reasonable with The Element of Crime, Europa, and Antichrist already in the Collection.

Ben.

Maybe we’ll get a two for one when Criterion announces Antichrist. Two von Trier’s being relased would be very nice.

deckard croix

@David: Ha! I like that one. It’s true.

Antichrist on Criterion? Is this confirmed yet? I’d much rather see Von Trier’s Epidemic on Criterion.

Max Renn

I found Breaking the Waves used for like 9 bucks a couple months ago.

aoaijea

well, it’s out of print, so you could just buy it off amazon or something. I did that and then someone I loaned it to broke the disc on accident.

Matt Parks

-Antichrist on Criterion? Is this confirmed yet?-

Yup

deckard croix

How shrug inducing.

Matt Parks

Yup.

Will C

Here’s to hoping Breaking the Waves joins the collection in the next couple years.

I do seem to remember the Criterion forums mentioning something about getting the rights for more von Trier movies that weren’t Antichrist.

Mitch

i downloaded that ish

Ryan Rogers

Yeah I downloaded it and watched it with English subtitles for no reason

NEONBEAR

It’s on netflix instant now.

Ben Simington

So, the director’s cut is shorter? Anyone know what gets excised?

NEONBEAR

scratch that, I was thinking the five obstructions for some reason.
