Devoted Super-8 shooter in the 70es, also 35mm still work, then 16mm in college. The market changed, and my career now is as a free-lance broadcast videographer. But I still think ‘in film’.
I have shot a couple mixed format shorts on super 8, 16mm, and 35mm. I am mainly doing freelance corporate video’s and weddings on super 8 at the moment.
That’s it? You’d think more film lovers would at least have film as a hobby.
I’d like to work in film, but as I’m not really old enough to be able to buy any equipment, the only chance I have had to work with cameras/editing gear is a short film that I have made for school. I’m about to begin reshooting 3/4 of it tomorrow. I’ll put it up on Youtube when it’s finished though.
Not really industry, but I’m a film critic. I’ll post some links to my online articles on my profile page if anyone wants to check them out.
I run a blog called NAIVE CINEMA: kazuakiwatanabe.blogspot.com
It’d be nice to have visitors! Leave a comment!
well I don’t work yet as a pro, hopefully one day, right now I’m a film student currently entering my 6th semester out of 8. So maybe it’s considered a hobby right now.
Kazu, your website is really cool. I downloaded the image of Sophia and Jayne. What a classic. Jayne was known for wearing the lowest cut at any occasion, and if that didn’t work, she just took it off. Also, I love the vintage poster for They Live By Night, one of my favorite films. But then I’m a Nicholas Ray freak. Thanks for sharing that. How often do you update?
I sometimes make stop motion shorts, typically B-Movie type stuff, and often using LEGO. I would like to get involved in some live action but it’s very cost prohibitive and my area is about the worst place for film networking.
My site is: http://ClosedToThePublic.net
if the videos aren’t working right my youTube is http://www.youtube.com/SlothPaladin
I am graduating in May from film school with an emphasis in production. I have worked in many different formats from Hd to 16mm, mostly on a student level, some professional. I freelance videography, and am trying to get some of my films online. Will post a link when I get some work online. I am also surprised that more people don’t at least try there hand in the art form they love so dearly. I believe it helps to give insight into criticism and analyzation when one has an understanding of the process to bring to the table.
I work as an editor at PBS. Does that count?
Justin, thanks for the comment. I try to update at least once a week, sometimes more sometimes less. It lacks a centralized focus right now, so there’s all kind of stuff on it — essays, reviews, pictures, etc. I’m also getting into Nick Ray! I wish more DVDs were available…
I’ve been meaning to start a thread like this my self; kudos Ruis— seems too appropriate. Nothing like working with people who have good taste!
I’m an aspiring cinematographer, though I also direct some of my shorts. Most of the time I’m a 1st/2nd AC; and RED Camera tech in the LA area.
stephenlucas.info is down right now, but I’ll have it back up in a week or two.
I would love more than anything to direct some shorts, but I lack any technical experience.
I’m a suit
I have made a feature film (avaliable on Amazon.com) called “The 28th Day”. I have also edited some industrial shorts and two features for Crackhorse Productions.

i’m a suit… or an assistant suit, rather. on my path to become a suit, but would desperately like to be on the creative side of things like i was in school. still involved with film of course, but not how i’d like.
I’m a trained assassin. My weapon is the edit bay.
I’ve had shorts play at BAM and Anthology Film Archives in NYC and a few random festivals (ranging from the boredom of Ohio to the ridiculousness of Sau Paulo, Brazil). I’m always in the process of working on a feature length project, but what that first feature will be constantly changes.
I received my BA in film studies from the University of Colorado, Boulder. There we were forced to work with 8 and 16mm film. I have a mound of celluloid in my room that cost me around $500-$800. There is only about 10 to 15 minutes worth watching.

My last year at CU Boulder I bought mini DV camcorder. I used it whenever I could, at the annual 420 celebration or during a directing and acting course. I got hours worth of good footage from mini DV, still do. The film I am most proud of is the day my friend Matt told me that he signed up for the marines.

Currently I am producing an video series to help promote my friends metal band. They go by the name of Ides of Eternity and they should have their first demo out soon. The series is called House of Metal and it consists of whatever I capture when I am around them. I search through all the footage and look for anything that fits together, bits of comedy, biography and music video. The first episode introduced the individual band members, and followed them as they talked about actors like Samuel L. Jackson. The second episode is a closer look at our rhythm guitarist Jeff. The episode displays his dry sense of humor and also incorporates footage of a Christopher Walken movie he was in as a child. I am currently working on the second part to the third episode.

Right now with all the concern over the environment and the economy I wish to use my craft to contribute constructively to solving these problems. Though the problems that I find is that most people in film and the arts in general are very ignorant about energy and environmental science. I’m no physicist, but much of the research I have done about energy runs counter to what many actors and directors are advocating. So that is why I wish to get into industrial film making for nuclear power. It is the only base load power source that does not produce CO2. The waste is small and controllable and the industry has the best safety record of all the energy industries. I have some documentaries scripted that I wish to make and hopefully that will be my springboard to narrative film making.

I’m just curious.
Everyone should post links. Maybe we can all network or just check out each others work.
